Anyone know about an M differential additive?
My car was in for a service today and I also got them to investigate a kind of scraping noise that I hear sometimes. It sounds a little like something stuck behind a brake disk but seems to come and go. WHen I hear it (usually with the windows open), it's expecially noticable when turning.
The dealer found nothing majorly wrong although they mentioned the ceramic disks in the differential can sometimes make a noise and BMW have an additive that can be used to resolve this, like an extra lubricant. The process involves I think bringing the diff up to temp then draining it and refilling with this additional additive added. THey said it isn't faulty and is perfectly fine to use but having the procedure done will be of benefit.
They were going to charge me for it but as the car is under warranty they've said they can cover it under the warranty. Strangely it isn't something that can be done while I wait so have to leave the car with them for the day.
It's booked in for the end of May (as I need a courtesy car) but I'll monitor it until then in case it might be something else but their explanation seemed reasonable.
On a side note, I used a Mini Clubman diesel today for 60 miles of country lane fun and I must say I enjoyed it more than I did the crappy E92 318 diesel I had last year.
