M Differences

OK - I'll grant you that. I was actually thinking of the wishbones, springs, ride height having, just gone thorugh an excercise of removing and replacing various bits of my supposed 3.0i M set up.

Mine's an 07 coupe, extended leather, "split" bolster AND basketweave. :P

A coupe with one panel seat base bolsters.

That's my car :) And a terrible photo...

...but yeah, single panel for me, maybe it's a year thing (mines a 56 plate).

As for differences, don't forget the battery is in the boot...

The obvious ones are of course quad exhausts, different front bumper, clear indicator lights/flat rear lights (althogh these two feature on "Sport" and "Si" models), but what other differences are there? First one I can think of rarely mentioned is:

- M Cars have ribbed front bonnet, std bonnets are flat..

Discuss!
Not again...

Ah ok, glad we have that one sorted :D

Individual leather = split bolster.

But then why are non-M M-sport seats split bolster in non-individual colours (ie, red, black, whatever), while the M seats in non-individual colours are single piece bolster?

They literally made just red and black M seats different to EVERY other seat offered for the Z4 range with those side bolsters... from my POV they look like a finer quality leather (I bet they are)... and the split bolsters just leant themselves to cheaper cars (Si/sport) and customisation (individual colours)

What did Alpina use I wonder :)

It's easy to assume the Z4M is just a parts bin special (I did) it's only when you look into it you realise how much BMW changed.
Cheburator pointed out about the front hub carriers here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6347&start=30

Even the two M's have different shocks and rear anti roll bar.

Split

Cool.

I prefer the single panel bolsters to be honest, they look much more racey :)

I'd hoped when I was searching for my m-sport seats I'd stumble across some of these rare beauties (single panel) in black, but hey ho :D Red twin panels it is :D

What is extended leather - is this the bits on either side of the central lower dash and on the doors? This is mentioned as an option etc but all cars I've seen have matching colour leather on the doors - or does it mean it must match on the bits on the lower dash as well?

The steering is hydraulic on the ///M and electric on the base Z4. Big difference.

What's the big differences you're supposed to feel with this and/or differences in suspension - more feel of the road?

"Extended Leather" differs from GB/Europe/USA/Rest of the World. There is no common denominator. For example, in the USA they pay nearly $3000 & get absolutely every conceivable surface in stitched leather - including the Roll Over Hoops. I doubt if even your local BMW dealer (wherever you are in the world) has any idea - especially as the Z4M is now no longer produced, so will not be listed on their computers.

Having had a 3.0 Z4 with the "Electric" power steering & moved to a Z4M with hydraulic assistance, there is one hell of a difference. On wet/icy roads you actually feel that you should back-off. You KNOW what the road conditions are. :)

'M's are only owned by blokes! :?

(The one exception will be along in a minute to prove the rule!)
