M Cruise Retrofit

The switch and wiring loom cost less than £100. If they are fitting a new steering cowl then yes that's reasonable! If they are just cutting it like we all do then it depends on if you're willing to pay £250 to have it fitted.

There may well be a how-to around the corner :thumbsup:

My cruise was fitted at the factory.
 
I understand all the actual words on those - the rest I have noooooooo clue about :lol:

It should just be a case of connecting to pin 4 of X60002 at the DME, I've included the rest because for factory fit the cruise wire should go into the car (fixed) side of X6021, with a wire from that to the DME. That might explain why it's not easy to trace. Multimeter on each should show if they are connected. Be interesting to know what's present for those without cruise fitted.
 
so is their any cutting into existing wires? how easily could this be routed within the existing wiring so it all looks as if it comes from factory.
 
Yes, the retrofit instructions get power from the LCM but the wire join is with proper BMW connectors. A single blue wire is routed into the engine bay and that goes from the switch and along the bulkhead, up a hole behind the glove box and into the housings. That just needs to clip in somewhere, the where being what we need to figure out. Once it's in you'd never know!

The install is a bit time consuming because of all the trim that needs to come off, i.e. most of both foot wells.
 
It's no different to fitting to a non ///M Beedub, just that we haven't until now (hopefully) found out what pin on the DME it need to be plugged into to.

As long as Bing is up for it and we have time I will take a look at his car next weekend. We did try before but couldn't remove a clip. I will be prepared this time though.
 
Fitting the blue wire into the DME is the easy bit six screws and the glove box comes out and you can see behind the CD player to route the cables along with the OEM loom, some small loom tapes will make it invisible from the original loom and it joins other loom wires going through the small tunnel into the electrical control box through the bulkhead.

Using the BMW supplied snap connectors and a decent pair of crimps it would be invisible from the factory fitted loom

ok I'm ready for this!!!!!

absolutely horrific when it comes to electrics but seems as though I've had the dme out more times than i care to imagine it can't be that bad, the key for me if proper routing of the wires with the factory loom.
 
Yes, the actual connection is easy, clips into the wiring block. Routing straightforward but fiddly. Once we know the pin it's an easy job.

this is one of the few bits my car is missing so id love to finally get this added!!! seems like you guys have cracked it. if you have , i will be very grateful :-)

all ill need is a detailed DIY... ahem... ahem... wink wink
