Hi everyone, i'm new to the forum.
My car history over the last 3 years has been a bit random, 2004 nissan 350z, 2011 bmw 318i sport plus edition saloon, 2012 bmw 318i sport plus edition coupe and 2013 a Z4 20i sport.
I really like the bmw brand but ever since trading my 350z in ive missed it badly. Anyway i decided to buy either a bmw z4 3.0si or a bmw z4 m coupe. After serious consideration and being let down badly in a deal for a 3.0si i put a deposit on a 2006 m coupe today.
I'm hoping to view the car in the next day or two as its a 500 mile round trip. Any advice on things to look out for that are unique to the M coupe would be appreciated!
Stu.

Welcome... Taz will be pleased.

Have a safe trip there & back & don't forget some pictures of your roadtrip

I'm no expert but just check through the service history and bills etc.

Any more info you can give us on the car?

Before you set out make sure the service history is intact. The running in service at or around 1200 is vital. If the history is wafty, walk away.

Inspection 2 on these is a wallet emptier, so you'll want to know what's next and when. Ideally the cars last service will have been a recent inspection 2.

Then follow the buyers checklist from the forum and you should be ok. Don't forget HPI etc.

Good luck!

Make sure the first 1200 mile service is fully documented AND substantiated by an invoice.

Apparently it's OK to exceed this by up to 500 miles but any more invalidates any warranty as is a special bedding in oil that will damage the engine if left in too long.

Edit: just seen Stu post b4 moi

If no invoice is present you can always call the dealer that stamped the book to confirm the service.

Welcome and congratulations !

I recently bought into the MC brigade myself after a string of newer BMW's and Audi's and don't have a single regret.

Beyond what was said above, look out for accident damage, these things seem to have a desire to end up in a hedge. Open the boot and look along the wing joins for evidence they have been replaced; lift the boot carpet and check the rear floor pan for wrinkles/deformation; under the bonnet look at the strut towers, check for cracks to the brace mounts, ripples to the towers themselves and that camber holes/fixings all line up. Also pull the dipstick and check the oil for cleanness and under the filler cap for white milky residue (could be the oil blowoff); the engines will be more 'tapety' than you are used to but listen for excessive knocking at the front end (vanos)

On the test drive beyond the exhaust note, which you will get addicted to, coming from the cars you have the MC will sound knocky/bumpy on poor UK roads. Don't panic, this is just the way they are, it's just the stiff suspension.

I'm sure there will be loads of other advice along soon, but this should be a starter for 10.

All of the above, but regardless of the car, don't forget an "aggressive brake test" on the test drive. Should brake largely straight and true.

If it doesn't - you may have just revealed a multitude of hidden problems.

...just remember to tell the passenger before you do it

Can't really think of any advice that's specifically for the ///M coupe that wouldn't apply to the roadster.

I would make sure it has a roof

A coupe-specific spot to check is the underneath of the hatch - as there have been some cases on here where there's been surface corrosion.

Thanks for all the info guys!
Here's a link to the car.

TBH, i'm a bit worried about the warranty, its a 6 months warranty that can be used at "any" garage. As i've always bought approved BMW, i'm unsure about it.

I can tell you the garage has been around a while, >15 years. Don't know about owner changes or anything.
They've had this car about eight weeks, and when we were looking it was the cheapest Dealer ///MC in the country.
Have you seen the terms of the warranty they're offering? Check what is and isn't included, and if you want a better one, price one up before you go, and try and haggle for the price. I'd guess about £300-500 for an off the shelf warranty.
Oh, and watch the roads round there, full of potholes last time I was driving through....

... a proper one :poke:

in addition to the previous posts, I'd check the condition of the door seals for blooming/cracking and lift up the floor mats on both footwells to ensure that there hasn't been any water ingress (I think most coupe cars will suffer at some point - well I'm expecting anyway).

good luck

Update.
Really liked the look of this car but after a full HPI the mileage was 10k more tan advertised.
After speaking to the dealer it was a genuine mistake and nothing more than a typing error on there website. But i also decided to not buy the car as it was going to need a major service sooner than i anticipated.
Anyway i ended up buying another car that i was originally interested in.
Its a E86 3.0si with 25000 miles and full BMW history and one owner.

Is it black 'n' red (the *best* colour combo ;) ) like the ///M?

Tried to upload an image from my iPad but with no success. I think i need a photo bucket account?
