M Brake Disks - Upgrade

Hello!

My rear disks have worn out and I've decided to upgrade them whilst i'm here.

Does anybody have any recommendations on brand? I've researched a little and it has confused me - sport, drilled, groove etc.

Would it be recommended to replace the fronts at the same time as the rears? Do you need to replace pads at the same time (assume you do?!)

Thanks!

No M for me so can't comment on disks but yes you will need to change the pads.
You don't have to change the fronts at the same time if you're keeping similar performance pads (these will affect performance more than drilling/grooves/disk brand) but if you were going for a different type of pad then it makes sense to change them all out. If you didn't change the front discs then you'd need to swap pads again when replacing those - measure the thickness to see if it make sense to do it all now.

M Discs are drilled as standard on the rear, so unless going to some kind of performance big brake kit upgrade then there isnt really much you can do to upgrade. Just stick with OEM and you will be fine for everyday use.

The Z4m brakes are very good. Look at some additional cooling and you wont go wrong, unless you are doing a lot of track work.

Performance friction disks and pads are a great combination, I'm not sure they do them in M sizes though.

Plenty of caged E46 M3s run them on track, with great results.
