M badges on non-M cars!!

Just seen the first pics of the X6M and X5M. Notice they've just stuck an 'M'; badge on the back as they did with the Z4. :) I thought they'd been a bit cheap with our cars but these babies are going to cost twice as much!

0-60 in 4.7 seconds, now that would be some fun driving the kids to school

I was at the dealers looking round the new Z4 this weekend and I was talking to one of the used car salesman and he said they are very tempted in the workshops to take the M badges off the non-M cars and give them back to the owner with a "Just don't!!" note! :P

There is a 10ish year old VW Golf (very very base spec model) near my parents house that has BMW badges covering the VW ones and and M3 badge on the back in place of "Golf". Next time I go up I will have to take a picture, it always makes me laugh.

I don't know WHO he thinks he is fooling!

That sounds hilarious! He's probably doing it on purpose! I sometimes think about adding a 2.2i badge on mine just to mess with people. :D

I had a 2003 Audi S3 and put a 1.6 badge on the back - which looking back makes me just as bad as the "fake m badger's" - but it was most fun at the time, all of my mates had 1.1 Saxo's and such, and i used to tell them that it was only a 1.6. Childish I know :-)

I saw a 740i with an M badge while driving yesterday. I wanted to take a picture but could not. Safety first! :D

It may have been an M package 740 - There was a 540 M package too. Here in Canada a number of Dealers badged them - I'm unclear if any came from the factory this way.

Got one question.
I've got some 18" CSL replicas on my 2.5i Z4. Theu have the small "recess" to install the M badge, but didn't come with the badges.
Would it be OK if i bought some aftermarket M stickers or would you all just throw me stones in the street ? :D

(weel, i'm looking for decent M badges now...)

In your case I say it's perfectly fine to do so. But if you put an extra badge on the boot... then you might get some hate.

Now I don't own an M, but it does strangely annoy me seeing M badges on non M cars!! I followed a 5 Series diesel with an M badge on the back last night!! Why?? :?

Bonkers,

My Neighbour has a 5 Series Diesel but has stuck an M badge on saying its an M sport.... No M badges in the engine bay and only twin Exhaust.....

Can he really put a badge on and is there any tell tale signs its a M Sport?

Cheers

As the originator of this thread, i feel i have to add my latest non-M experience to the party.

We're currently chopping the wife's Mini for a 1 series as we've had a baby and the Mini is used only to take me to the gym! We went down yesterday to look at a 116i Msport in white, nice looking car. Came complete with 116i AND M badges on the back, brand new from BMW.

It's like some weird jekyll and hyde confused car. I told the dealer he'd have to take the badges off before we consider buying it and they were very confused! "most people realy want the M badge Sir" came the reply.

Well i ain't most people!
