M badges on non-M cars!!

Those who care can tell the difference and those who dont wont notice so why do it? M is something toaspire to not fake. However i do like msport derivitives as long as they dont have the boot badge which is where the true faker comes in!

Had a look around my local dealer yesterday and noticed that the Msport package 1 series has the M badge on the steering wheel, road wheels and the gear leaver from the factory. The M badge is just a logo of anything that the M division of BMW has had anything to do with. Be it an engine, a steering wheel or even a road wheel.

I agree with Rick. If it comes from the factory, it's okay.
Also IMO, it's fine for accessories like the ZHP knob or ///M steering wheel to wear M badges given they're designed by the M division and they serve a performance purpose. But we all know the badges on the trunk/boot lid symbolize a whole different meaning. If you have an ///M badge on the trunk you better have the engine and chassis number to back it up. And no engine retrofit doesn't count.
Yeah there is confusion here. BMW put M logos on everything now if it's a Sport spec car, and that is what it is (marketing). What's sad is people who have bought and stuck on an M badge to a none M / completely the wrong car (be it an M Sport or not). For example

FWIW, my 3.0si came with M floor mats. :? And to be honest, they kinda drive me crazy because it's not an M car and I loathe the idea of being a poseur. I picked up some all weather mats, but haven't replaced the M versions yet (I'm holding out for the potential of scoring an M coupe). That said, I do find the M wheels quite the lookers and wouldn't mind a set of them... maybe I'll find some still hooked to the M coupe.

There's a guy in my town who has a blue, 5 door, 1 series with a custom rear bumper with quad exhausts, a-la M cars and an M1 badge on the rear.. How's that for putting an M badge where it doesn't belong. At least the 3 and 5, HAVE M versions! 
Oh and hello again by the way. I registered quite a while back when i wanted to ask a few questions and was active for a bit but then drifted off. Back now due to the fact that i bought a Z4. More details when i have the car in my hands. (sorry for the small hijack, i felt i should explain myself)

My first BMW was a 3 sires with the fat business man suspension, I was always disappointed with the handling so I replaced that with a 120D M Sport thinking I would get the handling with the economy. This had M badges everywhere, Gear shift, steering wheel etc (the one I didn’t understand was the scuff plates on the door sills surly M division didn’t design these to make the car faster?). My point is apart from the wheels all the badges were on the inside in fact the only way to tell it was an M Sport was the bit below the rear bumper and the front bib spoiler was different from the other models. I would never have put M badge on the back because I don’t have Acne and I don’t have tracksuit bottoms tucked into my white socks, anybody like that turning up to buy a BMW should be given directions to his nearest Vauxhall/Opel dealer.
Anyway the 120 was good apart from the ridiculously hard ride (run flats) and its amazing thirst for Diesel (35mpg when driven like a grandma) so I went the whole hog and got the best looking car on the road and there is no way I’m taking the badges off it. After all I don’t want the above mentioned Corsa driver even thinking he can beat me from the lights, it would only hurt his fragile ego.
Anyway the 120 was good apart from the ridiculously hard ride (run flats) and its amazing thirst for Diesel (35mpg when driven like a grandma) so I went the whole hog and got the best looking car on the road and there is no way I’m taking the badges off it.
