///M badge question...

Following a couple of recent threads, I understand opinion on here is polarised on this subject, but I am considering putting some ///M badges on my 3.0SI.

Before I do, I have a couple of quick questions:

Just how much performance gain does each badge give?
Does the performance gain depend on the size of the badge?
... or the material used? (i.e. will a resin badge give more power than an embroidered one?)
Is the positioning important, or can I stick them anywhere to get gains?

I am afraid my knowledge is a little out of date... I know sticking a Cosworth badge on a standard Sierra used to give about 150 extra bhp... but are M badges more powerful than Cosworth badges?... and how do they compare to say, AMG badges? Would sticking AMG badges to my BMW still give performance gains or doesn't it work like that?

Thanks in advance for your help.

*EDIT* corrected from //M to ///M

It's the one on the steering wheel that has most benefit. If you can see that and ideally one on the gear lever then without doubt the car will seem around 50+ hp better off.

Fitting outside generally makes people smile, laugh and point at you. If lucky you may attract some special waves from admirers such as the thumb and forefinger gripped together and waved, or even the single digit raised indicating 'you're the number 1'.

I think it depend on which pub you frequent and how much falling down juice your (forced) to imbibe........

Too subtle perhaps? :poke:

Can you get carbon fibre effect M badges to help save weight?

BTW is it //M or ///M ? is there a performance loss with only a //M badge? :?

Rumour has it as we'll as BHP gains, the fitting of ///M badges makes you irresistible to members of the opposite sex and significantly increases your social standing.

Potential weight saving for the //M badge

I can imagine this. More material in producing the letters"BW" than "//"

 why would anyone do this, ive got M badges on my 313s cos they are M wheels which is the most i would allow, although im getting a M front and rear bumper does this count as bein a M owner wannabe???? Lol

Slippery slope, how many times do we hear that they all started with "I'm just trying the one" and "what harm can one little one do" ? :oldman:

Is the because they are easily 'M-pressed'?

Sorry about that, my mistake. But it has made me think - what about adding extra lines? Would an ////M badge be even quicker than an ///M , perhaps?

I think the general consensus is that m badges on wheels steering wheel is allowed if they are M range components.

Personally I think the M boer is fine to use as you are improving the aesthetics of the car.

But boot/ side ///M badges has to be a big no-no as the car isn't an ///M car

I can state categorically that this rumour is a false one. More than that it's not true.

The only M badge that can genuinely be used to create an impression is the one embossed into the head rest, on the passenger seat.

Dry tarmac, TC off, 4500 rpm, let clutch out quickly but smoothly, Impression made to rear of passengers cranium.

I think you find this only works in an M. :D

I think you will also find it does not make you irresistable to the opposite sex, as it simply provides an exellent excuse for a headache, that may last several days.

So to aid in my decision, I visited an imaginary rolling road this afternoon to get some science behind this.

This is what a standard 3.0SI rolling road prinout might look like:
standardql.jpg

This is the same car with the addition of 1x ///M badge:
1mbadge.jpg

and this is the effect of adding 2x ///M badges:
2mbadges.jpg

Interestingly, the badges have no effect on the made-up torque figures.

If??? That would make it seem as though you don't quite believe the statements??

By "A set" for your 2.0, just how many are you looking for??

I've heard, though without any backup from RR print-outs, that a colour printed and laminated M badge added to a set of non-M wheels will add grip to your tires!! I've been told it has something to do with making the compound of the tyres instantly more... What's the word I'm looking for.... Sticky?? Tacky??
This would surely be a great way to both improve the look of the wheels, without much added weight, surely this would be lighter than an actual M badge?? Is there anyone on this forum who could perhaps have some stickers printed?? I know from other forums I use that there are many people in different industries so maybe someone on here may be able to help us???

As for the OP...
Dude, can I bring my car down to your RR please?? I need to see just how many ponies my induction filter and tail-pipe tip have added to my car!! I'm not quite up in the world of owning an BM BM yet, but I'm nearly there now and am looking out for that special deal worth going for!!
