///M Aftermarket Exhaust Weight vs OEM

Just removed my rear silencers for the ///M as I'm going to have the bypass or internal modification done in the next month (yet to decide, any recommendations on that?)

I was surprised to find each back box is 10.1kg according to my bathroom scales, I was expecting a bit more.

How light are aftermarket silencers then? Anyone weighed theirs before fitting? Assuming 7kg best case scenario, it's not much of a saving really. Perhaps the weight savings is in the X pipe or cat? I remember on the S2000 forum at lot of the guys converted from a twin silencer setup to single to save money, saving around 15kg.

Anyway, it's put my mind at rest that modifying the OEM rear silencers is best value at the moment :thumbsup:

Hi,

What you doing with your existing backboxes, was you going to keep them or flog em?

I believe the official weight is 22.2lb or almost exactly 10kg as you've measured.

My Rogue Diablos were 7.5kg per side, so not a huge saving, but they are solid, and will last a long time.

I suppose a different style (Eisenman Race?), or titanium exhaust will weigh less, but you're still not going to get less than around 5kg/side.

If you were to the whole system in titanium, then I guess a 30kg saving may be possible - for about £10k :wink:
 
Get the 410mm bypass pipes from Warren Engineering, mine just got delivered today and should be getting fitted this weekend along with machine monkey tips. I'll make a before and after video for comparison. :thumbsup:

Certainly the cheaper option as my mate can do the bypass mod for free, he has the pipe. But Exdos got some proven improvements by doing the internal mod, so I'm torn.

It's either bypass and a Machine Monkey strut brace or just the internal exhaust mod.

Decisions decisions.
 
My entire system set up saved 30.2kg... I got rid of everything from the cat's back to the muffler... it's just pipes.

Like a boss.

The reason that aftermarket back boxes save weight and are louder is simply that they remove some material in and out. They don't use better performance or higher quality materials. It also reduces their lifespan and quality compared to OEM. A serious high quality system is mad money like £4 to 7k for the entire line.

Off... now ready to be sent away for the internal exhaust mod as per Exdos threads and some MM exhaust tips :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

They do stack rather well :) :)

They're not RPI loud, but are loud enough for me.

According to the Oulton Park sound test, the OEM ones never broke 80db, whereas the Diablos hit 91db.

There are a couple of before & after videos of mine around. Just search my posts for 'diablo'.
