Lugnut torque

What is the torque setting for the lugnuts on a 3.0 with sport package wheels?

I searched through 3 different forums and found nothing..

I got a few American English engineering terms ingrained from working there a few times.....never seem to forget them, or any of the funnier (from our POV) uses of English words :)
 
This discussion brings up the question as to why BMW chose wheel bolts rather than studs and lug nuts. Anyone venture a guess as to why BMW went this route? It's a pita putting the wheels on and lining up the holes...much easier with studs and lug nuts. The only thing I can see is the bolts look better than studs and lug nuts.
 
ok now i know what a lugnut is, i will confess to never using a torgue wrench to fasten them, i just fasten them tightly, if i was concerned i would check them after doing a few hundred miles
 
I changed to my winter wheels at the weekend and I did use a torque wrench...TBH, It's not as tight as I'd have expected. I'll trust BMW for now, but if a wheel comes off I'll have a few sharp words for them, I can tell you :x

Only words of warning I'd have there, and another possible reason for BMW using REPLACEABLE bolts rather than FIXED studs is I found mine had been overtightened by hand by a monkey of a tyre fitter...two sheared off leaving the remains in the hubs resulting in two pita rushed hub stripdowns, I inspected all bolts and found 50% had 'waisted' - ie had taken an hourglass shape due to being overtightened. Get a torque wrench. It ensures they are tight enough, and you can get them off in case of emergency. I now have new shiny wheelbolts and lockers - one of those was over-done, too.

Always re-check torque after around 500 miles........
 
Sorry, I know most seem to be from Europe in here but least we are all learning something new :)

What is the term then over there? Wheel Nut?
