Having recently purchased a Mini Cooper clubman for mrs smartbear I was a little disappointed when she got home after work recently & said the engine light had appeared, I was even more disappointed when I investigated the paperwork & found out it was the LAST DAY of the manufacturers 3 year warranty and as it was gone 7pm I couldn't contact them to let them know.
Anyway, I phoned the next day to be told unsympathetically it was no longer under warranty :(
I politely argued my case & they told me to bring it in for diagnosis, this revealed a kapooten lambda sensor (which they didn't have in stock) after a couple more days I got a call from them informing me that the sensor had arrived but the workshop guys couldn't remove the defective part & they now had to order in a new catalytic converter which was also out of stock & nowhere in the uk had one!
He also told me the bill had risen from £200 for a new sensor to £1200 for the additional part needed, luckily just before I started to lose it he also said it was all covered under the (expired) warranty 8)
So after a total of ten days at the dealership I collected the car and the following invoice, another day or two later on & I don't think it would have been such a happy ending...
Ps it's a 2012 car with 18k on the clock

You are indeed very lucky! I've heard a few horror stories about Ford owners who have problems a day outside the warranty period and fail to get anything for free.

Can you imagine if Mrs Bear had driven on for another week or so after the warranty expired and then informed you that the light had been on for aaaaages

On the BMW, you have a month grace by the way in case you renew the warranty (that was in my letter for the X5).
