Lowering your Z

I am contemplating lowering my coupe. I've look on the Schnitzer website and they do a set of springs. I've driven a 330 touring with Schnitzers springs fitted and the ride was perfectly acceptable. Now I know a set of coilovers or a set or springs and matched shocks would be better but I pressume if I get the schnitzer springs fitted by the dealer I will keep my warrenty in tact.

If anyone has fitted them can you let me know what the rides like and any pics of how much it lowers the car by would be great.

I saw a lowered Z driving down the freeway yesterday and it looked really good.
I know that doesn't answer your questions but I see why you would do it! :roll:
 
I have the sport package on my '03 and now have to avoid two local shopping centers and move carefully at a rather extreme angle out of most driveways. Mine's low enough.
 
mine is slightly lower then the sports suspension and whoever drives my car for the first time will scrape it. speed humps that are suppose to be 20km/hr i would go at 10km/hr and my coilovers are on full height

I quite fancy lowering mine a bit but don't want to be fearful of every car park entrance and speed hump..... :|
 
I think Sixspeed's Z4M on H&R springs looks about right. Not too low but defo an improvement over stock.
 
I got the H&Rs from Europerformance... I like the ride. People that have been out of it haven't realised it's been lowered, as the ride is just as good (I'd personally say better!) than stock.

I've had Eibachs on other cars before though, and been just as equally impressed - but can't comment for the Z4M application.

Isn't it almost too low already? I almost always scrape the front bumper just getting in and out of my driveway if I don't pull in or back out at the right angle! I can't imagine it being any lower, especially with the roads here in Dirty Jersey - if it were any lower my car would be so scratched up I'd want to GIVE it away to a homeless person or something. Of course I do have the sport package so I guess it is a little lower than the non-sport.
 
I would like a performance suspension kit that doesn't lower the car. Not one available from what I can see :( :( :(

Test drove an E46 M3 today, loved the handling and steering feel...... just can't get on with that engine and lacked the wow factor I was expecting. Plus a change of circumstance means I think I'll be keeping the Z4, will know more by early next week.

So in short thinking of ways to improve the Z4 handling. I guess changing the bushes should be first.

I am guessing coils are ££££'s ???

Glad to hear your keeping the Z!

Definitely change the bushes on the rear of the front wishbones and at least fit a limiter kit to the rear arms. That should make a huge difference.

Coilovers can cost as much or as little as you want. I would expect to pay from £800 upwards for something decent. I haven't really looked into coilover options too much because I went straight for the Intrax units. Quite expensive at £2100 but you know what they say, you get what you pay for.

Two things to be careful of. Some kits have a fixed spring seat so you can't adjust ride height or cornerweight the car. Secondly some kits have coilover fronts but the rears still use a separate shock absorber and just use a different spring in the original location.

You'll probably find the best handling gains come from setting up the suspension/steering geometry. It just takes a bit of trial and error to get the best set up to suit you.

Adjustable front mounts give you a load more parameters to play around with too.

It's worth starting with a tried and tested set up to begin with then tweaking it from there to your preference.
 
Thanks for the advice. My car is purely for road, so ultimate setup and performance isn't important. But improving the general feel and grip is important.

Think I'll speak to Simpsons about getting the bushes changed for now, good start i guess.

I'm going over to Simpsons next week to do my geometry and a few other bits and pieces funnily enough. I've got a track day coming up soon so I want to try a few new things.
