lowering springs

Save a little more money and buy coilovers. Stock struts don't work well with lower springs and coilovers offer a much better ride. Ask me how I know...

Not if your stock shocks are in good shape. They will work fine for quite some time b4 they go (20,000 miles). Springs (H&R over Eibach any day) allow the user a cheap remedy with decent ride quality (much better than stock) until the need to unload your $$$ on coilovers. Ask me how I know...

Current Z4MC. Not saying coilovers aren't the way to go, but stock struts work great, and if ur looking to save some $ for quite a bit of driving... it's a good option. H&R - sub $200, coilovers - $1200 to $3000++

Nonsense.

Completely overkill for the roads, and i am a coilover fan, having them on every car i've owned.

The stock shocks and Eibachs are a good set-up and very affordable. I wouldn't even consider coils for the Z4.

I always come away from these suspension mod discussions more confused than I was before. :tumbleweed: Some say lowering springs are a good solution for the MC and others say coil-overs are the only way to go. And then there are all the pros and cons regarding brands... If we take price out of the equation, which option/brand combination do you think provides the best solution for someone (me), who has the following set of priorities: 1) wants some lowering to improve the car's overall appearance, 2) currently on OEM 18" wheels, but going to 19" CSLs in the next 6 months, 3) basically happy with the OEM suspension setup, but willing to sacrifice a little comfort in return for the improved appearance of a lowered car, and 4) not interested in doing a lot of tracking. Thanks in advance for the replies!

i like coilovers mainly because i can adjust them where i want. the eibachs barely lower the car and the H&R srings give a negative rake lowering the back more than the front. i bought my H&R coilovers 2 months after i had the springs on. they ride better, and they are adjusted where i want them. H&R coilovers can be had for $1100USD....

have you had coilovers on your z4? it has nothing to do with your shocks being in "good shape". its the dampening not matching the spring rate.

eibach for look and comfort is good with 19 inch; i ride with this combo.

a friend of mind have the PSS kit, that's very hard!!!

I'm not saying they're BETTER, I'm saying they are a good interim solution to get rid of the bouncy stock suspension. The difference is huge. Flatter through the corners, less bounce and better stance. If u buy the 15mm spring pads for the rear, the H&R's sit flat. Coilovers are undoubtedly the best solution for flexibility, just don't discount springs as crap. They're not.

I never said they were crap. i just dont see the point of spending money twice on suspension anymore. i suggested to save for a little longer and get coilovers instead. i find them superior in everyway, and thought it was a good suggestion.

I also wanted to buy Eibach spring, but then I was in a Z4 with KW V3 suspension on the NS. Wow what a world of difference...and the comfort on normal road was also ok in my opinion. My Z4M is not my daily car, but a Sun and Fun car that comes about +/-10times a year on a track. So I did not spend £250 on Eibach springs and instead I'm now saving an extra £1.000 to get the KW V3 instead. If you are not into trackdays and want a little lower look; get the Eibach spring...otherwise get the some coilovers.

I want to lower the M before this years Autobahn/Stelvio/Route Napoleon trip :driving: and was going Eibach but looking at the CA autmotive site the H&R look good but they are another £70. Any feedback on whether they are better springs/value or just cost more and to stick with my original Eibach which I have used before on my previous JCW Mini.

I'm doing the same route at the start of may. There's 9 of us going. I'd be interested in your routes, were just looking into ours now.

This year is a greatest hits run taking in the best bits of our routes the last few years. 6 cars going: another Z4, VXR8, Clio 182, Mini Cooper S JCW and a friend undecided but either classic 911 or RS6 avant.
We have decided to go down through Germany as the French peage are no longer 'fast as you like' so ferry to Rotterdam then 500 derestricted miles (mainly) to Lake Constance. Overnight then taking in Fluella, Umbrail and Stelvio plus others to Bormio. Next day round Milan to the Italian coast and in on the Autostrade to Monaco which is the best piece of motorway I have ever found. Then Col du Turini and route napoleon to Sisteron, overnight before Col du Telegraph and Isard to name a few to Italy then through Mont Blanc tunnel to Chamonix. Final day to Epernay for overnight in champagne then back on the tunnel. Leaving Hull 25th May :driving:

Franzino, after reading through this thread as well as the other forum discussion on lowering springs -- the one you started earlier -- I was wondering what you decided to do. I think I may do the same. The KW V3s are certainly over-kill for my needs, but I think I'll be happier in the long-run.

The more that I drive the Eibach's the more they impress me and aesthetically they're a big improvement.

There is however a definite reduction in grip at the rear due to the extra negative camber. Certainly on the road anyway.

Thanks for that. last year we ended up going only down to the Black Forest and spending a couple of days there's there before a day a the 'Ring and then a track day at Spa. I'll have a look at some of those places on the net and see where exactly your going. How many days are you over in Europe

Leaving on Friday so arriving in Holland Saturday morning and back in the UK the Friday afternoon. Work prevents any longer. Springs are booked for fitting in 2 weeks plus an aux cable then they are recommending a Hunter geo 2-3 weeks later.

Really? I'm assuming you think your getting extra wheel spin. The level of additional camber is minimal and extra camber will actually give you more grip when cornering.

As above. More rear camber will actually give you more rear grip; however it will make the front push on a little...

I have a 2004 3.0 Simple question. Is the eibach 30mm all round lowering kit a day to day option or does it cause headaches with day to day driving. Any advice from peole who have done the mod would be appreciated
