Lowering costs

I paid the exact same price for fitting + hunter alignment at my local BMW Specialist.

Seen a few garages which all quoted a few quid cheaper but for peace of mind there was only ever really one option!

It's a good price by the way.......

Which same price Craigza ? There are a few prices in this thread now :D

I was trying to work out from the title if this thread was about the costs of lowering the car or lowering the costs of running the car! :)

Raising an older thread....

I'm being quoted £280 ish + vat for fitting 4 Eibachs and a 4 wheel Hunter alignment.

Does that seem reasonable in today's money. Or worth further phoning around? In the land of concrete cows...

I paid £220 for mine... @ Forza West in Chepstow, South Wales.

unless you are comparing prices in the same local area - this is all a bit pointless.
the key is what the labour rate is at the garage - for example at http://www.edentyresales.co.uk/ripley.aspx where I am going on Sat - they charge £42 inc vat per hour. Said it should be around a couple of hours work. They said for hunter alignment - worst case scenario would be £50

Same quotes in central London will be much higher and no doubt will be higher in other areas where the PH rate is higher!

If you download vouchercloud, you can get the alignment done for £35 at ets

I can hopefully get a ball park figure of what I should be expecting to pay. Fired a few more requests out this evening. It should be a buyer's market at the moment.

Result - thank you. Just downloading it now. This forum just saved me 15 quid!!

to add further confusion, I spoke with my indy about fitting just the 2 front springs, I was quoted £200+vat last week, I thought that was pricey so popped by and queried it sat am, the chap said to pop back and speak with the boss today, phoned back today, was quoted £270+vat and he wanted to know who had quoted me originally..

£325 seems expensive to me; and he said they don't normally need alignment, so it's not even including that...

Anyone know any decent garages who can do this job in the peterborough / stamford region?!

I got mine done at Iridium Engineering (my local indie in Southampton).

The pro-kit cost £208 - so you could get cheaper.

Fitting cost was £90 (standard charge)

Alignment was £50 - so all in £348.

I had the alignment done two weeks after fitting to allow the new springs to settle first...

They are pulling your £$£$£$£$ mate - unless their labour rate is over 100 ph this is way off. The fronts is a 2 hour job max.

I dont know anywhere near you - but if you stick your postcode in here: http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/ you will find garages that do Hunter allignment and no doubt they will be able to quote for your spring fitting

I just had done this weekend

- 4 springs replaced
- 2 tires fitted
- all 4 tires balance
- full hunter allignment with custom geomety setup

£212 all inc - this was in the midlands!

i have used them for a few years as they are bmw specialists, but they have p!ssed me off recently. even my missus, who doesn't normally smell a rat if it's sellotaped to her top lip, queried them recently; they phoned her at 3pm to tell her they were just starting her car, it would be ready for 5pm collection, and when she asked for an approximate bill the tool said, "well one window regulator, 3 hours' labour...." i'm pretty sure replacing a window mechanism is a one man job...

thanks for your reply.

Whilst I'm aware they're a Renault Specialist, Fred is a really very good guy indeed. Has one of the best reputations for mechanical work I know of.

Give him a try if you want, he's in birmingham:

BTM Performance
0121 783 6692

Tell him Rob from Cliosport recommended him, he may sort you out, but I'm unsure if he does alignment.

I think mine quoted me 3 hours labour to do... but also fitted my undertray, and drilled holes into a metal plate for my fang guard... cost about £240

I did mine for £50 cheap FK springs and fitted my self its not that difficult a job if you repetitively confident with a spanners. I just need to get it aligned now.

My local BMW specialist just charged me £60 to fit my window regulator. :o

Got mine fitted by F1 Autocentre in Newport Pagnell in the end, £120 all in and only took about 1.5 hrs. Chuffed with the results as well. Will get alignment done in a couple of weeks.

highly recommended local garage quoted £80ish + VAT to do the job - I'm happy with that.

the garage I used previously has recently had a change in management, which explains the price hike..

I have done a few and we charge 2 hours labour inc VAT.....£100

Full Hunter 4 wheel alignment is £62 in VAT..
