Lower Radiator Hose Replacement question

Hi Everyone,

So unfortunately today I noticed my lower coolant hose is leaking at the sensor where it attaches to the rubber pipe and had a look for a replacement.
I have found the one the same as mine is part number 17127514405 which looks like this:

But underneath it says:

Superseded by:

17127535591
(04/01/2004 — ), nonexchangeable retrospectively

Part 17127514405 was found on the following vehicles:

Z4 E85   (01/2002 — 11/2005)

But on this the sensor is on the 90 degree bend instead:

I am just a bit confused why it says superceded? Do I need the newer style as the older style seems rarer to get hold of?

I'm afraid I can't help with that, but I would just mention that it is not unheard of for the seal on the sensor to leak, so before you go too far, just double check the leak is not from that.
 
Thanks for the reply :) It is really hard to see much around the area which part should i be looking at as all i can see with my torch is the liquid around the join where the rubber pipe attaches to the plastic part housing the sensor?

Item 5 on the diagram you linked to is the sensor. (Sorry if that's teaching you to suck eggs)
The sensor comes with a seal around it's base. This can leak over time. If it is only seeping out then the fluid can run down and pool around the top of the hose where it fits to the housing, forming a lip.
I suspect the only way to be sure is to clean it all up until it is dry, then run it up while watching to see where the fluid comes from. Sometimes dusting the area with a bit of talcum powder can make it easier to see where the damp starts to spread from.

Ah this could be the issue then to be honest but just trying to figure out where to buy the o-ring seal from as it is this part number: 13.62.1.743.299 but I can only see it in America?
I may be able to do this from the top without a lot of hassle?
 
The link you put says air sensor?
Not coolant.

The whole thing is on Amazon for just over a tenner, delivered tomorrow on Prime
Search on '13621433077'.

EDIT: It would at least mean you had a spare.
If it turns out to be the hose though, I'd look to replace just the O-ring seal in the end of that if you can.
 
I think you are right though I think it is the sensor that is leaking :) as I can see the orange coolant on the pipe at the sensor when I put my phone down there to have a look so unless it is spraying out of the hose and up to the sensor I would assume it is coming out of the sensor :D

I will buy the green one and see what happens and fingers crossed that fixes the issue, thank you for your help :driving:

I found a green one as well but it says air and coolant sensor? I think this is the right one? I think you are right though I think it is the sensor that is leaking :)

Well it come down to your wallet I guess?
Double the money and you get the complete sensor?
But the seal looks like the right one.
 
I don't mind spending extra on the sensor if it can leak from other parts of it? Is it better to replace the whole sensor then?

No, only the seal.
I just went for the belt'n'braces approach. But if the seal is correct then just get that.
 
Hi,
When I sorted my vanos, I removed the electric fan which is really straightforward. This would give you much better access to the hose.
