Lower profile tyre to reduce rub

Swap them to a 215 40 & that should cure your problem ( you are on style 295 8j et 29 ? ) most likely be the outer edge catching the arch liner as opposed to the tyre tread catching the access flap for the headlight

No saying you will have rub with the 225 40s mr T , anything under et 35 is past borderline but as we have seen before there are other factors to consider such as age of shocks + springs & if the arch liners have previously been out they rarely go back as factory .
Make of tyre & whether full 8mm tread or part worn also has a effect as some makes are distinctly narrower fit than others ( eg Hankook + Falken narrower than Conti + Michelin )

At the moment they have the dreaded Bridgestone RFTs, but with just 4mm tread probably not for much longer! :lol:

Ive switched front tyres in the past 235 to 225 & 225 to 215 , not even felt it & i really doubt you will tell the difference in performance or looks from the change , it will simply roll the outer edge very slightly which should be enough to cure your issue

Sorry one further question, is an alternative to use wheel spacers in lieu of different tyres? (Something I found on an interest search).

Not in this case , it would make your problem worse not better

If it helps, I'm running ET32 8j rims on the front with sport suspension and 225/40 profile without issues. I have however replaced the shocks and springs last year so likely they're a good bit firmer than 10+ year old bits!

The fronts have at least 6mm Iain! It will take a bit longer to scrub them off. :roll:
