Low Volume on Bluetooth Phone Connection

I'm having a problem with the volume coming through the speakers when I answer or initiate calls. I believe the other side can hear me just fine, but the volume coming out of my speakers is just a little too low. I tried using the volume knob on the radio to turn up the volume while I'm in a call, but it doesn't get any louder.

I'm using an AT&T Tilt (latest PDA phone with bluetooth). Every other function works fine; phone book, dialing, answering, initiating calls, etc.

The reception guage on the nav computer screen reads more than half strength. I do not have an external antenna. The connection between the auto and the phone is bluetooth.

Any ideas? I searched google and other forums and don't see anyone else mentioning this.

You do not mention if this is OEM or a retrofit, which year, model etc. so a lot is guesswork here, but a couple of pointers:

I have installed a retrofit on my X5 and researched this a lot and purchased kit from bimmernav.com. One of the issues seems to be cars not equiped with an appropriate DSP amp creates a low level of volume through the speakers. You may need one of those.

If OEM I would have expected you to have the MFSW which has buttons to increase the volume of a call through the speakers. This works perfectly on my X5 to raise a call volume

I suggest take a look at x5world. In the forums they have a special section on bluetooth and it's exactly the same technology as in the Z4.

Sorry. Didn't think to mention that it is OEM. The MFSW buttons don't have any effect on the volume once it has reached its maximum (which is entirely too low).

Had the same issue on my old E46, thats why i didnt bother with it in the Z4, and went for aftermarket kit.

had the same issue. Two things helped. I upgraded to generation 12 ULF bluetooth unit in the car (got it cheap on ebay), i was on generation 6 before hand. Also turn the in call volume up to max on the PDA.

Rich your avatar looks very familiar

How's the Alp going, glad to hear you sorted the low volume, it was something that always annoyed me. As you say BMW obviously knew it was no good and fixed it on later models.

I also have a Tilt and have noticed the same issue. I have played around with the A2DP settings using KaiserTweak and it seems to help a bit. It's a nice program that can let you tweak a few of the Bluetooth settings. What version ROM are you using? I just upgraded to version 1.62 but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Also, I've never been able to adjust the call volume using the radio controls, I've always used the MFSW buttons.

Rom Version 1.57.502.2
Radio Version 1.27.12.11

I downloaded kaisertweek and set the bluetooth options to maximum. we'll see if that helps.

Try updating the ROM. HTC just put out the update (version 1.62.502.0) and it's supposed to have some enhancements for Bluetooth. You might also want to try playing with the SampleRate and BitPool settings in KaiserTweak.
Here's the link for the ROM with instructions: http://www.htc.com/US/TrainingGuid.aspx?p_id=67&act=sd&id=41366
