Low mileage / maintenance items

So my car will be 7 years old in June and has only done 13k miles.

The fluids have been changed every year, but what about other items? belts/bushes etc. the next service is inspection 1 according to the dash but im wondering if i ought to be changing anything else based on age rather than condition?

My plan is to replace the tyres (which are OE conti's) in spring which are 6 years old already so not good to keep them on much longer.

I'm just looking to make sure i dont create any big issues by not changing a £2.50 belt or some such similar issue.... :)

Oil and brake fluids until you get to the insp I mileage. There is no need to do Insp I early as it is mileage based.

Don't get the counter reset, that is all.

Out of interest what is the official mileage requirement for inspection I and inspection II and is it documented in any BMW literature?

Your car is wasted ! I do more mileage than that and its my 5th car !

It was Kevshore's car - he was the one not putting the miles on.

yeah, i've got a company issue Audi A3 with all private fuel paid for, so that gets a hammering for most of the run of the mill mileage and the good woman uses that one too....she was going to sell her car when I got the M, however, the loan for hers was almost complete when we looked into it, so decided to keep.

The M is very much a high days and holidays car, i cant see me lifting the garage door to take it out on a miserable january morning to go to Asda, put it that way.... :)

I got the M from kevshore on here, its never seen a wet road, in fact its hardly seen a road at all comparatively speaking against other cars its age. I want to keep it in tip top condition. I've only had it since September, and then didnt really get chance to drive it until October after hols etc. Next year is my first real season with it, hoping to do a round trip upto the scottish highlands and back. The furthest i've been so far is the evo triangle, which isnt that far from me really.

went a couple of weekends ago when the weather was clear. Must admit, i love this car, it's not the fastest car i've had, Evo 9 MR 360 wins that award so far, but it is by far the most engaging and entertaining, which after all is the point isnt it...

Anyway, back on topic, there are no items likely to have perished then? I realise i'm talking about a different class of production here, but in my lotus days, there was always stuff to change based on age....

The only time based items are the fluids, the mileage ones are not required. For example, the shims don't need adjusting if you are not using the car (i.e. Inspection 1 is not required).

Just as with tyres, I would recommend changing your drive belt and radiator hoses, which tends to dry out and crack.

There is no official document as inspections are based on fuel consumption.

IIRC the service interval usually works out at around 15k miles, but depends on fuel consumption as said above... Therefore if you hoon everywhere and do 12mpg it'll come around much sooner :D

Radiator hoses drying out isn't much of an issue, at least in the UK anyway.

age related issues ? garge queen springs to mind , get out and drive it more, should be your new years resolution, happy new year :D
