Hi everyone thank you for letting me join the forum.

I'm looking at a 2004 2.2 model tomorrow with under 20k miles. Asking price is under £6k which seems reasonable as I've seen a similar car with nearer to 25k miles for £10k.

I want to treat it as a modern classic for going to shows and meets locally (so I can enjoy the social side of things).

It would be nice to think of the car as an investment too, are prices of good cars bottoming out / rising or are there still too many on the road? Prices of any model of car always seem to bottom out at around 20 years old when they get cheap and neglected.

Thanks! :D

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don't think there is a Z4 I'd consider an investment just yet, but I can't see prices dropping in the near future.

The only thing to be wary of on a car with such a low mileage would be putting significant miles on it.

I'm now the owner of this beauty. Just 17,310 miles on the clock and I paid £5,500. Fresh MoT, just serviced and 4 x new tyres. It just neds a clean as it has not been used much recently.

I'm very pleased considering I could buy something with much higher miles for £3-£4k and maybe spend £2-3k on it. I have a few questions, the first one is regarding a fault with the car: the passenger door does not unlock with the keyfob button or the button by the handbrake, you have to unlock it by opening the door using the interior handle. It does lock using the buttons though. Is this going to be the motor/regulator at fault?

Could be. My old 3.0 did this intermittently.

Have you tried the other remote fob ? Mine seemed to work better with one than the other

Welcome, very nice e85 a pretty rare find with that mileage - i had the same problem with the passenger door and also swapped the key fobs over which seemed to resolve - it cant explain why :?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I have tried both key fobs 30+ times now and the more I try the more often the passenger door unlocks so maybe it is freeing itself up?

I've chucked a bucket of water over the car and it looks like a 2 to 3 year old car with 17k miles would so I'm very happy.

I have a few questions:

1. This circular thingy by the air vents on the dash - I'm presuming that is not standard kit so I can pull it off? Might be a phone ./ nav mount or something?

2. The wind deflector was rattling around at 60+mph. It is held on with 2 straps with velcro fittings. Is this OEM or after market?

3. I have a slight oil weep on the passenger side where the engine/gearbox join. Anything to worry about? It is very slight.

Thanks!

Congratulations - your car looks fantastic.

That round pad isn't OE so you ought to be able to remove it.

The OE wind deflectors have a frame with mesh so the rattling may be because it's an after-market one.

Your slight oil leak is a step too far for my limited technical knowledge, but hopefully someone will be able to offer some advice!
