Love to watch her Struts

So I am watching this video on how to replace the struts on my E86 and I think I can do it. Problem is this guy recommends a reinforcement ring to prevent mushrooming of the upper mount. I have looked everywhere, and although I have found reinforcement rings for other models, no joy on the E86. Any clues? Also, I would welcome any thoughts on particular struts. I'm no race car driver. Will the OE Bilsteins be fine or should I change to Monroe or Koni or other? Thanks for anything!

I've looked into this, couldn't really find much info other than a YouTube clip. Asked a mechanic mate of mine and he didn't know anything about it.
Think I'll ask my local Indy

If you're looking for front strut tower reinforcement plates, this is what you need (assuming the part is the same as that for the ///M):

Part number 51717036781 which looks like this and costs about £7 per side:

I thought this was only a problem on the e46 and not the z4.
I may be wrong though.
When I replaced my struts I worried about this issue but concluded it wasn’t worth it.

It’s my understanding a strut brace is a better investment as you clamp the metal of the body from both sides, as well as increased rigidity associated with the strut brace

The reinforcement parts for the rear struts are also worthwhile - same part for E36/46

Better still, reinforcement plates and a strut brace

I have both the front and rear reinforcement plates on mine, if memory serves me correctly I got them from Elite developments (will check for the confirmation email in a sec). E46 plates fit.

I agree, plates and a strut brace :D
The only thing I'd then worry about are if the studs on the top mounts are long enough?? Never paid much attention to the length of them.

Edit: just checked - it was elite developments. Site is currently down for maintenance. I have a feeling it was the same last time I checked.........
