Loud squeak on window up/down

This has been a problem for a number of weeks now but I've been ignoring it, it only seems to happen sometimes when I put the window up or down on the drivers side it makes a loud high-pitched squeak. The passenger side is fine. I presume there is some dirt or something similar in the rails but the last thing I want to do is strip the door down, does anyone have any other suggestions?

a tip i learnt recently is that WD40 has a million in one uses not only for lubrication, in fact once i've waxed and polished the car i wipe the entire car down with the stuff including the windows becasue i've noticed if i use the wax and it spills onto the windows i get that sqeaking sound from the passenger window too. Trust me it works it leaves no streaks on the glass and it comes up like a treat - water runs off the car. excellent for use inside as well, all rubber and plastic trim end up shining like new

I get this... WD40 doesn't work.....

The only way I can cure it is to clean all the rubbers, glass - inside and out with IPA. Again this will also remove wax but is a bit easier as you can put it on a cloth !

Good luck

IPA?

No it's fine.....

It's used alot in industry as a cleaner. I would not drink it though.....

Also used in detailing to strip the wax off your car before re-application.

Ah OK it's not too bad then. I had a bad experience with cellulose thinners once, it puts me off stuff like that :D

Cheers for the advice and explaination but where do I get my hands on some?

IPA is oftenly used to clean any kind of surface... works quite well on plastics metals and glass!

U should be able to find at ur local supermarket....

Rubbing alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, IPA, are all the same. Should be able to find them at any drugstore or even your larger stores that sell everything for the home, just look for it in the same area that sells heating pads and bandages
