Hi all driving home last night there was a loud bang from the roof
when i got home i was dreading looking at it as i thought someone
had thrown a brick at it! -i couldnt see any damage,i tried operating
the roof thats ok,i looked at the springs( in case the noise travelled)
from what i could see they looked okay, any thoughts? thanks.

To all those who have heard a spring go- does it sound as though its under the car? -this noise
was deffo on the roof

When my rear spring went it sounds like something in the boot had blown up - roof was down at the time - scary stuff!

Sounds like a rear spring has gone Andy

It scared the sh*t out of me when mine broke, and I was only doing 20mph on a very smooth road surface. Double check your rear springs mate

It will trip the emissions light, Andy.

I couldn't explain where it came from , really weird experience sat still when it went, and of all place in "maccys drivethrough". Haha. But imagine the shock going up through the strut and rear chassis etc - could well sound like the roof area to you.

Thanks for the input chaps-booked in at indy on Monday, they all look okay but its hard to see a break isn't it.

Were there any trees by the road, acorns and such like are falling from the trees and when one it's ya car it makes a very loud bang

If you can take the wheels off yourself it will be easy to see Andy.

For anyone who's had a spring go; does it feel significantly different to drive afterwards? Wife complained of a loud bang on the roof just after we got it, but nothing untoward on the boot or roof so I'm wondering if this what happened...

Yes I could take the wheels off but I would have to paint the hubs/calipers and I don't have the time at the mo

It's a fair cop... said:

I'm not too sure if it a big problem for the e89s? but handling wise all depends on the extent of the break. A lower coil you probably would struggle to notice apart from the odd creak or clunk when driving on uneven ground. A coil further up and the car will squat.

Jack the car and take the wheels off if you want to be sure. If you're not getting any odd handling or odd noises, then maybe you're ok.

It means your whoflungdung valve is broken Andy. :(

You'll need to completely remove your overheadlaughing sprocket to replace it

Seriously though, sounds like a spring mate.
