Lost service book

My 2003 car has a full service history and the book was fully stamped but it has been misplaced. The previous owner kept a full list of service dates and mileages so I have all the info but I don't know where it was serviced for the first 6 years. I have the name of the service location for the 6 years before my ownership so could get them to stamp a new book and I obviously have the details during my ownership.

I know it wouldn't really affect the prices now if I went to sell it, but I would be keen to have evidence of the full service history that I know that car has. Issue is, if I cant get the stamps for the first 6 years is it worth getting a new service book? Is it possible to track down the unknown service locations? Would BMW have the info in their system if I contacted them directly? Who would I contact?

Many thanks for any replies.

Ooh a fun mystery challenge.

I would think if the car was serviced at BMW dealerships they would have the records wouldnt they? Unless different dealers didnt share the info.

So a few places to try could be checking the car number plate to see the area it was registered and from there look for BMW dealers in that region. Then just phone around each dealer franchise like Sytner or whomever and see if they have any records of servicing the car. You might get lucky.

You could also put the number plate on here as there is a remote possibility that someone on here owned your car previously and could help.

Another option would be to use the government MOT history check at https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ Put in your reg number and it will list every MOT the car has had. If you then click on "view test location" under each of the MOTs and enter the log book reference number it should tell you where the MOT was performed. I dont know what location info you get but if it lists the company that performed the MOT it is possible the previous owners got the MOT and service done at the same place so you could ring them and ask.

I did this a few months ago. First, you have to register the car and your details with BMW with the Customer Care Centre. They can then tell you over the phone the date and location of when the car was at a BMW garage but not what was done to the car. If they are still trading, you can contact the garage directly to confirm the car has visited them. Just be patient and persistent!

Cheers guys,

Gebby - Good shout on the MOT info. Now I know where all the MOTs were carried out and will check them.

raymond.harper - Thanks, I will get in touch with BMW Customer Care and see how I get on with them.

I recently took my new E91 to the local Vines BMW dealership for a new key and a outstanding recall to be sorted... when I asked they replied confidently that the car had never been serviced by a BMW main dealer... based on what you say they should never have been confident like that. Mmmm...
