Stark, admittedly I had a spare for him to copy, but this guy has a lot of kit so maybe able to help. I met him directly & a couple of people turned up while I was sorted - comes highly recommended on the cutters forum.

So that's quite a bit of time to be going over this in your head, best to get an idea so you know what's needed and how much it's likely to sting you knowing it has to be done.

i was in the dealers the other day and someone came asking for a key ,and was quoted £175.

I have called quite a few online car key locksmiths.....and very one said they can't do it now because of this security issue recently and the cars going back in for updates.
Because I don't have a spare either it's tougher for a com pay to just copy it. So yes I am going in at 8am armed with all my papers and ID to get the job done...and yes. I don't care how much as long as I get it done.
Bloke Jembo recommended said he couldn't do it but he has given me the number of a guy based in London. He charges £280 for 1 key and £410 for 2. I am going ahead and getting one done, and will get a spare. I know I could wait for BMW but I'm just very impatient and want to use my car even though I don't really need it for a week....

I always keep my spare keys in the safe and only use one set for six months or so. Then swap them over. Don't be tempted to grab the spares when you just misplace your keys - go and do a proper search before you do that!
Don't bung them in a drawer either! We all have a drawer in the kitchen like that - they are worse than a black hole!

I keep my spare set at my parents 14 miles away. Not sure why I do this, think it's just habit of putting them in the key store when I was younger. Picked up the new car, stopped off at my parents on the way home and left the spares there.
I can see how keys can be lost using comfort access. Quite easy to put your key in a pocket and for it to fall out. I still tend to put the key in the dash so I have to release it into my hand and then I can out this into my bag or jacket pocket or bra if no bag or pocket.
