Loss of throttle response

Just found this: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/BMW_Z4M/58-FUEL-Accelerator_Pedal_Sensor_Replacement/58-FUEL-Accelerator_Pedal_Sensor_Replacement.htm

It was an interesting point at the bottom saying give it time for electronics to acclimate at idle or there’ll be a flat spot. My pedal looks like it might have been replaced prior to me owning it since the cover plug on the hold down bolt never was there. I have a new pedal to put in this weekend so I’ll let you know the outcome. I replaced the upper intake solenoid and it’s still doing what it has been so wasn’t that still have to do the lower solenoid just didn’t have time when I did the upper with juggling the kiddo around.

This can occur after periods of constant speed if one of the tracks on the pedal actuator have a loss of signal due to dirt or wear, only once the system can verify the actuator position for both tracks (one the resistance increases the other it decreases)will it recover the signal and allow the ecu to know if the pedal is being depressed or released.

It can potentially get worse although once it becomes persistent it will give a fault code. and the engine will not respond at all.

OP have you had any luck yet? Took mine out of hibernation third day did it 3 times on the way home so I changed my pedal out and hasn’t done it for a week after so far.

I did when installing the new pedal. It still happened on the old pedal after the reset but with always driving in sport mode there was more going on then the throttle adaption doing its thing.

Do you have INPA? You can do a real time live data on the pot values with the pedal just with ignition on.

I have a Peake and the diagnostic software from ess that came with the vt kit. Still no codes showing. As an update it did it on the way in today so pedals not the problem. I noticed when it happened was when I was coasting in 5th going 70 slightly lifted foot and when I went to pressed on the throttle again it was like in a dead zone of acceleration. Down shifting revs went higher still no response and as I’m oscillating the throttle my boost gauge is going with my foot will go from vac -18 down to -2.3 but not to positive boost at all. The whole thing lasts a couple of seconds then back to normal.

Without codes now I’m at a loss. Think a possible sticky icv, or fuel pump/filter? I replaced the Disa about 20k ago when I first started noticing the problem when it was n/a so been happening pre f/i

This is the first time you mention ESS fitted in the thread? :?

Ah well I had a thread a while back on it in the discussion part :D but since this started occurring least for me to take notice 20k or so on the clock before ess, was ruling any of the kit out.

This was my original thread when I first took notice of it then totally forgot about it till th op in this thread revived it
