Losing Washer Fluid

I filled up my washer fluid last Friday, only to notice Sunday it was empty?,so I filled it up with plain water, tried the washers and all was fine, checked it again later in the day still fine, so I though hmm strange one, then I put my headlights on, tried again and water poured out from under the bumper on the passeger side and didnt stop till the bottle was empty,

I put it up on ramps today, thinking loose tube etc, no such luck, the long solid tube coming from the washer unit is cracked and leaking, so into the dealers Monday, hopefully under warranty (which they said should not be a problem if that is what it is)as I have no idea what this would cost.

Yes I saw those, I try to keep my fluid at near a 50/50 mix in this weather, but obviously was not enough to stop it freezing.

What tube is it - can you see it from the engine bay? I think I have that problem - I have water coming from the passenger side too.

Mine is cracked also I think :(

If its leaking from the Left hand side, turn your wheels fully to the right and open the Fog Light inspection panel in the wheel arch liner. You should be able to see it there... Hopefully its just a pipe popped off!

I bodged mine and now its fine, i basically just unclipped the tubes to the headlight washers, bent the tubes back on themselves and ziptied them in place, then i disconected the power to the headlight washer motor on top of the washer bottle.
No leaks since, no headligh washers either but unless you have posh lights they are pointless anyway.

Hmmm.. mine's leaking but I haven't really looked why, but then it barely moved in the cold weather, despite being in a carport.

Hope something's fallen off, rather than cracked pipes.

Interesting, it seems to be the passenger side headlight washer that is prone to this, I hope all yours are just the tube from the washer bottle to the washer, mine is definatly the "hard tube" which is part of the pop up washer its self, its cracked near the top, im interested to see what the dealers say when it goes in on Monday.

Mine went a few weeks back, in te really cold weather, i still cannot get the guards off to see the actual problem. I would be interested to find out whether your warranty covers it. I have bmw warranty and they will not cover plastic parts, such as tubing/piping etc. They did not want to know, does not matter if it had just blown off the nozzle or a split. I took my washer bottle out and plugged the the outlet up, no headlamp washers but i can live without them.

Just a little update on this from me...

All i did last night is fill up the reservoir, and get a mate to grab the o/s lamp washer when i fired them. After grabbing it, we cleaned it out (especially the bumper cover - was full of grit everywhere) and then moved the mechanism to the full length of its travel a few times. It was leaking slightly as we were doing this. After this no more leaks and the washer is firing away normally :)

So in summary: Turn them on, Get a someone to grab it, Move up n down a lot, it'll leak fluid, clean the shaft and head, fire away

No word of a lie!! Ed

Got mine fixed too, I asked if it was covered by warranty, and did not actually get an answer, the reason for this is, I have the extended warranty with a £100 excess, the cost for a new washer fitted, £101.50, so did not have to take up the question of if it was or not, i was not going to fight over £1.50.
