Not sure if enough oil could escape via the filler to prompt a yellow light. The M54 engines are known to burn some oil, mine can go through 1l every 2,000 or so miles under "spirited" driving. Provided there's no mayo when you check the dipstick, and no overheating issues, I wouldn't worry too much. Worth replacing the seal if there is some leakage
The oil light and the oil leak are probably not relater unless the top of your engine looks like the Amoco Cadiz!
watch out for the oil pressure as that is a big problem. however, get the oil pressure checked out by a garage as you might just have a dodgy oil light switch.
No  it's correctly filled up when checking the dipstick.
The oil is fine.
The new oil cap seems to fit a lot tighter than the original bmw one, and after a 10 mile drive to work, the rocker cover was still clean and oil free (i cleaned the oil off before I left).
So it just leave me wondering why I keep getting the yellow oil can appearing on my dash when I turn the engine off.
could this indicate a possible CCV issue ?
too much back pressure on the filler cap ? oil sensor ?
i know its a serviceable part 60/100k as they get gunked up .
