losing clock and trip info

Okay, this is a weird one, but got back from holiday on Sunday - turned the key, had an odd noise from behind the instrument cluster and only the abs light showing.

Then the rest of the lights came on, car started fine, though the rev counter took a second to come to life and all the time/date, trip info etc was all lost.

Though strangely not the radio stations.

I thought it might have been a battery issue for standing for so long, but it does it everytime, doesnt lose the radio stations or GPS history, and I've done a fair few long journies - so i'd expect it to charge the battery at least a bit.

Any ideas?

I had this once, and it had generated an ibus error. The dealer had no idea and I have not had it since.

I lost my computer info - but not radio stations - as a result of the alarm going off all day. The first time this happened I managed to start engine but second time battery was to flat to start. Check your alarm hasn't been going off (bonnet sensor) before replacing expensive batteries.
