Looking to come back to the fold

Hi,
Be kind, first post although have had a good look through the site.

Having sold my wife's Z3 in 2005 for a more practical Mini, which became a Fiat 500 and now an Audi A1, I'm now looking to buy a Z4.

This is going to be purely a fun car to be in addition to the A1 and my own BMW, kept garaged and on limited mileage and a keeper so I need to get this right.
I'm leaning towards a 2.5si Roadster, no more than £14,000 which puts me into a 2007/8 with a low mileage. Colour is also important, no blacks or greys but I do like the blue. It must have a full BMW FSH. I have found one that pretty much fits the bill and wonder if one or two of you might give me an opinion. http://www.lodgemotor.co.uk/bmw-z4-... locally if any of you live this way. Thanks

welcome . your budget should leave you plenty of choice ,
i drove past my local BMW this morning with a fine looking roadster for sale http://www.lloydcolnebmw.co.uk/approved-used-bmw/
shame its not your engine preference & the trim would only suit certain individuals :?
bear in mind most main agents will deal over the phone & deliver the car wherever you are
GLWS

Looks nice but much too expensive in my view. I bought mine a month ago with just a few more miles than this one, but loaded with sat nav, heated seats (a must), and more. Paid £3k less than this.

There was a lovely blue one with matching hard top I nearly bought, but it didn't have the heated seats I wanted. Probably gone now, but I could have had it for £10k.

Take a look at Pistonheads and EBay for a good private sale. I too wanted the 2.5si, but if you extend your list to 3.0 you will find more for sale. Gicven that we're now into autumn, the next couple of months should be a good time to pick up a bargain - but not at a dealer! Good luck!

Thanks for the replies,

mr wilks.....I take it you are referring to the blue one, it certainly ticks most of the boxes but the Z3 was a 2.0 and the moment we bought it we realised we should have gone for a 6 cylinder.

revesby....It looks a little expensive to me as well, have emailed the dealer to ask a few questions and as it will be 160mile round trip to view I need to be sure it suits my needs. Good point about the heated seats, but can't find many with sat nav unfortunately. I'm not sure about a 3.0 yet, increased running costs and fuel consumption are in the back of my mind after owning a Discovery 3 for two years!

Pistonheads,eBay and Autotrader seem to have the same cars.......Anyone on here thinking of selling?

i doubt the difference in economy would be noticeable on a weekender whereas the extra horses when under charge would :D
don,t make the mistake twice :)
the 3.0si 265bhp is a peach , , tootling in town i get 22/24 mpg & today after 30 mile thrash showed 27 & steady away motorway early 30,s

Suggest you wait until the Goodwood soft top Breakfast club meet in October, there will be plenty of us there, maybe even a few Coupe's that you can nose around, only a few weeks away & prices may be even more attractive.

If its on a forecourt remember to use 'We buy any car' & pretend be the owner to get a valuation. You wont get it anywhere near that price but least it will highlight just how unrealistic the dealer price is...

Good idea....they quote £9,190.....anyone with a glasses or CAP could give me a realistic price to offer?

I'd go for a 3.0 given it's a third car. Running cost will be no more than a 2.5 and in time will likely become the ever more sought after. They tend also to be better specced (standard and options).

Personally I'd also scrap the FBMWSH criteria and base it upon a decent history, but primarliy condition. BMW stamps become largely meaningless on older cars. Trying to keep them up on a keeper will cost you thousands for very little and I'm not convinced BMW stamps prove much about condition.

Loads of choice in your budget range - happy hunting

I live in Lymington. I've just put a deposit down on a 3.0 roadster, but it's an early car so will probably be different to a laterbone, however, you're welcome to have a look round it or come out for a drive when it arrives.

I live a couple of miles away from Lodge Motors, if you're serious about buying it but you've got any niggling doubts about it that you want checking out before you come up from Lymington, let me know and I'll check it out for you.

That said, it is rather expensive there, that dealership does tend to deal with some more "premium cars" too and often the prices are a bit silly.

Thanks, We would love to have a look.

Thanks as well, only if you are passing and fancy a walk round, I think the car has been there a while but it looks clean from the pictures, my reckoning it's worth £13,200 to me tops but would prefer to buy privately from someone who cares...

As an aside don't suppose anyone has the BMW brochures that would cover the face lifted model 2006-8 please

And the accessory brochure as well...

Okay, I've started to put together a wish list and whilst there are plenty of Z4's around most seem to be black/2.0/low spec.

I think my ideal car is blue or another striking colour but not black/silver or grey. 2.5 or 3.0, decent wheels, 2006/2007/2008, has to have a good spec, low mileage with a traceable history. I'll pay up to £14,000. It would be handy if it was near the south coast but happy to travel.

Far prefer to buy privately but Autotrader/Pistonheads et al aren't having much to tempt me...

Must be someone on here with one to sell...or knows where there is one..

Don't make me buy a Boxter :(
