Looking to by Z4, Need advice

Hey All,

So I am thinking about purchasing a used BMW Z4 but I have concerns mainly because I know very little about cars and normally have had company vehicles in the past. Could I ask for some advice around the following:-

- Are there any particular year/models I should stay away from?
- What's the highest mileage people would consider relatively safe to buy a used car with? I worry about high mileage cars but again that's due to lack of knowledge rather than experience.
- If available should I get extended warranty (if I buy from trade/would people feel buying private is relatively safe?)
- Thoughts around car in general? Are most people happy with their cars?
- I'm thinking of spending in between £6 and £8K, does this sound an acceptable amount?

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Hi

Welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place. I've tried to answer a few of your questions below.

- Are there any particular year/models I should stay away from? No but there are differences Pre/post facelift in 2007 on the E85/86. So depends on what you want from the car. Im assuming that's what you're looking at given the budget.
- What's the highest mileage people would consider relatively safe to buy a used car with? I worry about high mileage cars but again that's due to lack of knowledge rather than experience. These cars generally handle mileage very well so don't let higher mileage put you off. Condition is more important.
- If available should I get extended warranty (if I buy from trade/would people feel buying private is relatively safe?) I wouldn't bother for cars of this age, just put a little aside each month instead in case something needs fixing.
- Thoughts around car in general? Are most people happy with their cars? I think so
- I'm thinking of spending in between £6 and £8K, does this sound an acceptable amount? Should get a very good pre facelift E85 (roadster) for that or a higher mileage facelift. Wont get you a coupe I don't think unless its very high mileage or CAT D/C.

Your budget should see you in a good car. Any you find to look at post a link to the advert and you will get plenty of guidance. The cars that are in the for sale section on here tend to be forum cars and the history is well know.

Also have a look at Alan's buyers guide

Welcome along.

Many thanks for the advice and so quick too. I'll take a look at the buyers guide and will look at some of the cars for sale on here too. Will report back soon.

Thanks again,

Dan

Buy on condition + history over miles Dan & you should have little to be concerned about .
Your £6k-£8k will easily get you into a 3.0Si Roadster which for my money is the choice car for all round fun+performance against running + purchase costs
There are 2/3 great examples for sale right now from forum members & that's where id start my search
