Hi set my mind that I will be buying a Z4 in the very near future, I would prefer a 6 pot and my budget will be about 4k ish, which is the best model to buy.

3.0 pre-facelift should be doable with that budget and is what I would (and did) go for! Should be able to get a good example with around 80k miles.

Preface lift 2.5 and 3.0 are both silky smooth six pots and should be available within your budget..
Welcome on board. :(

If you can stomach the miles a Si for your budget would be a great way into a straight 6 Z.
The earlier cars are fine but even with 100k + covered the 262bhp N52 would be my choice

Hi and welcome aboard.

For your budget it'll need to be a Roadster (E85).

It may depend a bit what you are used to, but I doubt you'd be disappointed with any 2.5 or 3.0 litre whether it's a facelift or pre-facelift.

The best option would be a try a few first if possible. Just look out for one with heated seats!

Welcome to the forum and by the way , there is nothing wrong with the early E85. These are fantastic cars and don't come with the dodgy water pump. They are plenty quick enough too. :D
Where do you live, as you may be able to get a ride and look around a local forum members car.
Tip..
If you can bag an early car with a wood dashboard, you are on to a winner
