Looking to buy my first Z4

Hello all,

I am currently on the hunt for a Z4 - i'm pretty much decided that the Z4 is the route I want to go down. Manageable insurance for a youngster like myself when compared to S2000, Porsche Boxster etc as well as more for your money and I love BMW's too.

I have spotted one in a Dealer local to me, it is up for £12,995 and it is the following;

It is a 2.5i SE with 46k miles on the clock, extras include xenons, heated leather, wind deflector, Carver hi-fi upgrade, auto folding mirrors, extended storage, M Sport suspension and the upgraded wheels as seen above as well as the pretty standard metallic paint.

I see xenons, heated seats and upgraded hifi as the extras i would want in any case, anything else is a bonus.

Now, my car is this...

I have had what i would call a decent offer on mine, but thats against the full price on this one, which to be honest I think from research is a little on the high side.

What would you say was a good deal? Mine + £5k on this? Anything more than that and I would be inclined to hold onto it with a view to selling privately and buying privately. I'm just itching really to get rid and get into the Z before the very last of the decent weather goes and we are into winter.

Any advice would be appreciated and if anyone reading this fancies a part ex, give me a shout.

Ive got one with about the same specs, diffrent rims and interior though... I love it!
Go for the swap :D

I've gotten myself into the position where I can do the swap. In an ideal world, they would offer me £7k for mine and let me have that for £12k - i'd probably do it without a second thought to be honest.

Then id spent a little putting 5 spoke star rims on it and removing the indicators of orange traces

I just wonder if i would spend time kicking myself that I hadnt gone for the 3.0 or that I didnt hang on.

Id LOVE a black with red leather version.

If you REALLY want a 3.0 ltr and black with red leather, then hang on a look for one.OR, if the dealer's one is not quite what you want, tell him and haggle REALLY HARD in order to make his offer irresistable to you, so you buy his one even though it is not quite your perfect car. It's a buyers market for these right now. I bought my 03 3.0 only a matter of 9 weeks ago, and at what I thought was a good price, but it has dropped a further 2 grand in the book since then.I bought it as a keeper, so I don't mind as I knew that was a likely scenario.

I would say hang on for what you really want - sods law that the minute you do the deal you will see one with all you want etc.

This is true, but I'm putting the miles on mine at a rate of about 2.5k a month. The value of mine is plummeting like a stone.

I will see what comes of the latest bit of interest in mine.

You should absolutly go for the color combination you want the most otherwise you will regret it later on...
As for 2.5 vs 3.0 Ive driven both and chosed the 2.5 cause it was impossible to find a 3.0 in the color combination I wanted, prestandawise I personally thinks its not a big diffrence (the 2.5 uses lesser fuel though) :D

Most reviews I have read have put the combined MPG of both the 2.5 and the 3.0 at the same 31mpg figure.

But the 3.0 litre would seem a lot more powerful 5.7 vs 6.8 to 60 is quite a difference in my opinion.

At that mileage rate the z4 above will be hitting 73k in less than a year... what would that do to the value?

Wooooooaaahhhhh. I can smell the anticipation from here, the desperation to part with cash is all to familiar :D

This is not a good thing! Take your time and the right one will come along. Maybe not in black with Red as these aren't as common as the greys. BUT, you will know when you see it. :)

I would advise taking a 3.0 for a good spin to see what the actual difference over a 2.5 is like for you.

With the market the way it is, private sales are almost giveaways if the seller has to get rid.
Find a car privately, look it over and then go to the dealer and ask them what they would ask for a Z4 with XX miles on the clock. Take that price add a couple of hundred quid on top and offer it to the seller. Chances are he will consider it if hes not getting many bites.
Im sure someone on here recently sold there 3.0 with about 45k on the clock for 10k. :o

MMM - I think this one might be a rush decision. It's a nice car - don't get me wrong, but I'd hold out for the 3.0i I also see this one does not have Sat Nav and IMHO does not have the best rims on it. You may also want to find the much better ///M sport seats. The 2.5 is a little cheaper to buy - for a reason.

Prices are still dropping, it's a buyers market an exactly what you want is out there - just find it.

If you really want it as mentioned before make the dealer work for the sale.

This car is almost exactly the same as mine, love it! But if your choice is for a different colour body and interior combo, it's worth holding out for what you want.
Mine's in the shop at the moment, so I've driven a 2.5, a 3.0si (auto) and a 2.0 in the space of the last few weeks. There is definitely a noticeable performance difference between all three. IMO the 2.0 is far too puny and the 3.0si is bloody amazing, a bit like a rabid beast when you drop it into sport, but nice and sedate in standard mode. Flappy paddles are a novelty, but not my idea of an everyday drive.

...you've got to hold out for what you want (but not too long or you may never get it). Never buy the first that you see...

...anyway, that's what I reckon. Good luck, fella, be interested to hear what you go for.

Had an offer on mine of £6,850 but im not letting it go for that, i would let it go for £7,500 maybe a tad lower? That puts me in the £12,500 max for private purchase - would find one for that im sure.

This one on here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6780 will end up being around that price I would think.

Thats what I'm after.

Ive left him a note - i couldnt go any lower than £12.5 on it anyway, as id prob let mine go for £7k to move quickly on it.

Yep, well - seeing what some of the other private sales have gone for recently it's not a bad price at all, and it looks like a very nice car. It might take a few weeks to get to £12.5k though I'm sure it will get there eventually.

3.0 with 32k m sports seats in grey @ 12400 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/718477.htm :)

all i can see is a little wear on the drivers bolster
