Looking to buy a 2.0....

Hi Fellas (and Ladies)

Firstly, excellent forum here, tons of good info.

I'm looking to buy a 2.0 Sport in March from BMW Approved Used, I've been looking around and I'm getting quotes under £300 pm on PCP over 3 years which I'm pretty happy with.

The only thing that I am slight concerned about is how much money I should have aside for any unforseeable issues (obviously first year not such a problem with the warranty) but I was thinking should I stick some cash away before I actually take the plunge?

I'll be using this daily as my main car, around 12,000 miles a year.

So I was thinking of setting aside (per year):

£500 Tyres (hopefully won't need to replace all 4 at once at any point!)

£500 Servicing

£175 Road Tax

£500 Just in case

Does this sound realistic or should I budget for a bit more?

Welcome to the forum, I have a 20l however it is a weekend car so Im not sure about the daily running costs.

They're pretty bullet proof so long as you keep it serviced when required. Also, you can extend the warranty past the first year when it is due to expire so no worries there either.

Hi
I have a 55 plate 2.0. Currently about 74K on the clock
Generally bulletproof. The common things that might come up if you don't renew the warranty
rear springs ( I paid about £350 parts and labour from an indie I think)
window regulator (about £200)
keep the roof drains clear and avoid the expensive roof motor replacement
I had a handbrake cable and ratchet replacement but not sure if that is common or me being too heavy handed.
Plenty of threads on tyre costs for replacement with non RF

Plenty.

The 2.0 is a tough little cookie with much lower servicing (and fuel) costs than its bigger brothers. With that sort of mileage, services will only pop up every 18 months or so (although some advocate annual oil changes, but thats your choice).

I think VED has just crept over the £200 mark (check on the DVLA site) and if you keep the 16" wheels, not only is the ride a little more compliant (but still glued to the road) but a set of four Falken 452s (non-RFT) from somewhere like Camskill will set you back around £260 plus fitting.

And facelift cars (56 plate onwards) don't suffer the busted springs or dodgy roof motor problems.

Its a good choice if your primary goal is open-topped motoring on a budget. If you want to spend a lot more money and only be able to drive a wee bit faster, then get a bigger engine LOL

thanks folks, good to know.

Hoping to take a couple out for a test drive next week, I've seen prcies drop by literally thousands over the past few months, definitely a buyers market at the moment.

Does anybody know how much it costs to extend the warranty on the 2.0 for a second year?

Hi and welcome. Good luck in your search, I have a 2.0 sport and the money you are putting to one side should be fine with lots left over for a xmas drink. The VED is now at £200 but I do not know the cost of extend the warranty.
Enjoy your Zed when you get it

Hi and welcome with your search. There is a used purchase checklist link in my signature which you may find useful EVEN IF you are buying BMW Approved. 2.0l is a good car but with the 4 cylinder engine - if you could stretch to the 2.2l or above then you will get the much smoother 6 cylinder engine although this will obvioulsy affect insurence premiums.

Facelift models still suffer from both of these problems, but the roof to a lesser degree (hopefully) as its insulated slightly better

Plenty IMHO! All my issues (so far) were sorted under original 3 year warranty, tax is £200 on the button & servicing cheap from an indie...

Great car - I don't feel I'm missing out at all with the 2.0 considering the mix of town & Mway driving i do, enjoy!! :driving: :driving:

Show us yer data LOL :poke:

seriously, given that both were apparently addressed during the facelift I'd love to see what the failure rate is on facelift vehicles...?

Right, I'm taking an SE for spin but realistically looking to buy a sport as there are tons more available with decent spec, are there any differences in terms of drive and handling between the two variants? Obviously the sport has 18"s on it so I assume it has more of a tendancy to tramline and perhaps a firmer ride then the SE with the 16"s, any other big differences?

sport is a much better option , seats , wheels , suspension etc
its not the rim size that makes it tramline its the run flat tyres !
