Welcome,

£5k is plenty to buy you a nicely sorted Z4 E85.... especially at this time of year.

Don’t rule out a 2.5si (218bhp) facelift car (not to be confused with the 2.5i) . Real world performance isn’t that different to the 3.0i and 3.0Si (Facelift)

However you look at it, you’re likely to be buying an old car, so if you’re not sure what to look for try and take someone with you.

Take into account what the car has had done, and adjust your price accordingly..... but don’t pay over the odds just because someone is trying to recoup their spend. Some cars listed here are listed at very fair asking prices but others get listed at prices you’d be mad to pay.

The Z4 is not a classic car (yet), so don’t think of it as an investment... just as fun!

Biggest tip I can give you is.... take your time, It’s a buyers market so if you’re patient you might just find a gem

Agree with True_Blue, take your time and drive a few, they are all nice to drive but some are better than others. The Z4 seem to be well put together apart from the known problems such as roof motor and potential “sticky” steering. Most things can be resolved and have been by forum members so plenty info here. They are “older” now so things will wear out eventually. Buy the best you can and you’ll love the experience. You have much more choice in the UK than here in NZ so be patient and the right car will come up.
My 3.0 is a 2003 and drives like a 3 year old car.

All the sound advice is given above. You have a sensible budget for what you are after. Get out there and try a few. The Paint work is generally decent on Zeds. Just be sure you view in the dry. This wet weather can hide otherwise obvious blemishes.
