Looking for a reliable service repair garage

Hi All, I just bought my 1st Z4 yesterday 55 plate. only to find that it has been clocked, I am contacting BMW to see if they can find the real mileage as I beleive there are 3 recordings of mileage on all BMW's??? also to see if they will return the clock back to its real mileage.
So I have now joined the forum in a bid to get to know & deal with genuine BMW lovers.
I want to have the vehicle checked throughout & serviced so that all is as it should be, I do not know anything about cars or this Z4 so any advice would be great, I am in the West Midlands & would like to know if there are any meets etc in my area (Redditch Worc's)

Hi, that's a real shame. You should be able to get the proper mileage through the previous MOTs though which may be easier and more accurate:

Hi, Thanks for the advice, it was checking the mot's onilne that I realised it was clocked, the thing is that the tell tail things like worn pedals shiny steering wheel are all ok so I am just curious to know the real mileage!!!
I am still happy with the car it is straight & drive lovely, the HPIcheck states all good so no worries on that score.

Did you buy it privately or through a dealership? How much of a gap was there between the real mileage and the clock?
 
Bought it private, mileage went upto 7200 in 09, the car shows no MOT for 10 & the mileage for 2011 is 51000

Sorry to hear of the clocking nonsense :(

Have you contacted the seller to see what they say? Criminal matter if the seller has deliberately misled you through clocking. The MOTs and previous owner details will narrow down when the clocking was done and potentially by who. I would be suspicous of no MOT in 2010 and now want a full identity check done for the vehicle including VIN checks. Keeping the vehicle may be OK but if you now know its clocked then you must inform any new owner if you sell or you become liable to......

The keys that come with the vehicle hold a great deal of digital information which can be read in seconds by a BMW dealer by simply passing the key through a scanner - normally located at the service reception desk in a dealership. Worth going in to your local dealer and asking him to check the info - will at the very least give you mileage to the next service and access to the previous service history.

I always have a full service done after a secondhand purchase just to set my own mind at rest and ensure the vehicle is fit for my purposes from the off - unless the seller can produce a very recent service receipt.

Hi, The guy I bought it from says he is shocked & knows nothing about it, I will contact the previous owner once I receive the log book.
I will take it into a BMW dealer to have the key read.

Good luck - have a look at the link below and scroll down to the entry made by Gookah which identifies a 'tamper dot' in the digital mileage display which indicates that the mileage has definately been tampered with.

How many keys did you get with the vehicle, service books etc?

Would be interested to know why the previoius owner did not have an MOT in 2010.......
 
An admission of guilt is my guess! Think that's plenty of proof he knew what he was selling?

Clocking 20k miles off the car would only have netted a few hundred pounds, so hardly worth doing IMO. Z4's with high mileage still sell well as folk are not bothered by big miles on these.Tell the previous owner that you'll be speaking to the police over the matter and then see what he's got to say.I don't know about the West Mids, my local indy is Autobarn in Northampton, they are really good.Welcome to the forum, and I hope you enjoy Z ownership.

Hi, I have checked the mile ometer & there is no dot to say there has been an alteration done!!!!!
I have spoken to The BMW Dealer who have done some work on it in the past & they are investigating it for me!!!!
I am a blond but not natural!!!!! the other half doesn't seem to mind!!!!!
Still hoping for someone to give me a local expert to service it plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My 320d hasn't been clocked (clear record of successive MOTs, services, and receipts dating well back to the period when it was in its first ownership) yet the tamper dot is illuminated next to the milometer. It has had the steering column instrument stalks replaced.
Apparently, the indicator stalk contains either a second record of the car's mileage or at least a mechanism for logging attempts at altering the mileage, hence the discrepancy and the tamper dot on my car. If it does keep a second record, BMW should be able to recover the vehicle's true mileage for you.
I agree with others who have suggested contacting the police. I would also consider reject the car if you only just purchased it as future resale might be very difficult for you. Good luck...
