Looking For A New Printer

I'm looking for a new printer. Need to print 13 X 19 or larger in high quality color. Needs to be supported with OSX. I'm currently looking at the Canon PIXMA PRO-100. Does anyone have any experience with this printer or have other suggestions?

A bit of a curved ball, but I have just got an HP Envy 5532 together with a monthly subscription for how many pages I want to print. I currently have a 50 page print limit and it costs me £2 a month. The printer is monitored via the internet and as I get low on ink HP send new ink. Oh, its an A4 printer, is that big enough? They do other monthly contracts if you need to print more of course, but its a very cheap way to print.

When you say larger? Is it for home use, office or could it turn in to an earner for you?
Our smallest printer does roll to roll and prints Direct to flat media too.
It starts at 1600mm (65inch) wide max, whats your spend?
You'd have to be printing a couple of hours a day though to make it pay.

Thanks for the reply...

This is for home us and for when I need to print color. I would like to have the ability to print up to 16 X 20 inch high quality color pictures but 13 X 19 inch is large enough. I have an older Canon printer that will do 8 X 11 color pictures but it has died and is not worth repairing so I'm looking for something that will replace it and allow me to do all my own color prints. I have an old HP Laser printer that I use for B&W and while over 10 years old it s still going strong. One of the reasons I was looking at the Canon PIXMA PRO-100 is the cost for a full color 13 X 19 is only around $5.00 per print and that is cheaper that a local custom lab who charges $20 for a 13 X 19.

I've always gone down the Epson route, but their mid-range ones not their 'throwaway' $50 models.

The last 'small to medium format' one I bought was an Stylus Photo R2400 which uses inks (ultrachrome) that contained a resin so that the were hard-wearing and water-resistant/proof - and that did up to 13" wide x 40" long IIRC, and used to be able to print onto canvas roll as well as sheet-fed paper. Lasted about 5 years before I had any issues with it and even ran it with a Lyson continuous ink system - but I wasn't using it nearly enough and that's what ultimately killed it.

Bought an Stylus Photo PX800 (aka Artisan 800 in the US) in about 2010 and am still using that. It's quick and multi-function, but only does A4/US Letter sizes.

I think the current entry-level 13" wide Epson is the Artisan R1340 but I'd stay away from that one as it uses the cheaper but poor Claria inks which are nowhere near as water-resistant as the Ultrachrome inks.

I'd have no hesitation recommending one of the other Stylus Photo R range (or Pro if you want to splash out on a 17" wide one) if you stick to genuine (6-9 colour systems) or Marrutt/Lyson replacement photographic/metallic inks.

You won't go wrong with either a pro Canon or Epson. It's a little like canon vs Nikon when asking which is best. Check the reviews through photo websites rather than PC websites.

If you're going to print a lot, check to see if you can get a volume ink system (external large ink reservoirs)
