Probably is the same car. Shytner are notorious for massively marking up cars, then after a couple of weeks they will drop it by £5k.
They also seem to flog them off to other dealers if they don't sell quickly at the stupid price. Maybe it's a marketing ploy so it looks like they sell their expensive cars for big money to keep retail prices high?
I have only had brief dealings with a couple of Shytner dealerships and both were extremely unpleasant.
I would rather walk than buy from those knobs.
Indeed! They have had a terrible reputation right from the early 1980s when I first started driving BMWs. It’s a miracle that they ever survived, let alone expanded in the way that they have.
I think it’s been largely down to two factors: a) Them securing the UK connection to Alpina, thus giving them a certain status and b) On the back of corporate/fleet supplying of BMWs.
What it certainly hasn’t been built on is providing a good service or honest dealings with the private individual.
At one point, they were trying to buy up every E85 Alpina Roadster going, to corner the market and therefore, artificially, inflate the market. They even ‘cold contacted’ me when I had mine and offered me a stupidly low price.
I too, would neither buy from, nor sell to them.
I saw that ad for that outlandishly priced one too. The thing is, it does no harm to those of us who already have an E89. It actually potentially pushes the values of our cars up too!
