Looking for a cheap 4x4

Got about 2.5k to spend on a 3 door small 4x4.

So far looked at Suzuki vitara and Mitsu Pajero

Any other recommendations?

Try a RAV4.

Had one when they first came out, bullet proof. It only went to car heaven after I parted with my ex & she rolled it into a telegraph pole.

Easiest car I've ever driven.

We have a grand vitara. It's ok. It's been reliable, it feels solid enough. It's just not very nice to drive.

For a while i ran about in a Honda HRV. They look odd but it drove like a small town car, it got treated like a slave and never complained and it was brilliant in the snow. I actually quite miss it :(

Quote for insurance on a 1.6 GV is £550. My 3.0 Z Coupe was only £50 more.

Multi car policy my arse.

Jesus! I insured a 2.0 GV a 1.6 HRV and a 3.0 Z4 for £550 on a multi car with Admiral just last year.

What's the purpose of the 4x4? It governs what to get.

Is it to tow, use in bad weather, greenlaning/off road, etc.

Jeep Wrangler is a good call. I have 2 in my warehouse and they are bomb proof and cheap as chips in standard format.

Suzuki Jimny .
Getting very cheap now and don't take up much space.
Surprisingly good off road (Check out some of the 4X4 mags) but as C10jeeper ask what you want it for? Jimny would be no good for towing for example

Its going to be used for a lot of things Phil but mainly general use.

Shopping, Bad weather driving , going to work when I'm on the late shift, tip runs etc.

Not fussed about off roading though

Looks like its going to be a 3 door 1600 GV as there are plenty of them about.

Would like the older model Vitara JLX but decent ones are hard to find.

Went to look at a few today at a garage Colin Appleyards use to get rid of trade ins - saw a nice 2002, 60k miles, £2,500.

I am still running an old Diahatsu Terios as a shopping cart. Y reg and just keeps going!!! It flies on snow. Nothing weather wise seems to stop it!! After buying the Evoque I had every intention of selling it, but I cant get round to it! I've owned it for around 10 years now!

Ended up buying this;

Took a hit on insurance but its bought now and means my Zed can stay tucked up when the bad weather arrives.

Looks in good nick. Suzukis are really tough.
We're looking to get a winter hack so the zed can stay tucked away.
I suggested a 4x4 panda.
OH wants a Cayenne.
Great minds think alike...

If you want it as a winter car make sure you put some winter rubber on it !

Stopping a car is usually more important than getting moving. We spent some time in the Italian Alps last year and the hotel owner wouldn't use his RR sport 'cos he couldn't stop it.
