Looking at an E89 35is

Hi

I am looking at an E89 35is at the weekend and wondered if there is anything in particular I should look out for? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Also I was wondering if the professional loud speaker really makes a difference? If so can it be fitted retrospectively as the car we are seeing doesn't have it.

Check the wheels for cracks Sharon. Mine is new so don't know of any many major problems. I have the upgraded hifi system it's good but wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. Just listen to the exhaust its epic

I have some kind of upgraded audio although not professional audio..

It sounds really good and is more than adequate.. The media option is good too..

What's the spec/ year/ mileage etc etc?

Apart from cracked 19" alloys I don't think there is anything over and above a normal car check... Make sure history is correct and no signs of accidents..
DCT should work smoothly, and press every button and make sure it all works.

It is a 2014 with 15k on the clock and has everything apart from the prof speakers. Mineral white with red leather

Everything???

Now that's a bold statement..!!

With it being only a year old and such low miles I wouldn't expect it to be anything but immaculate to be honest...

White is a good colour for the E89 IMHO but many don't like it for some reason, it was very in vogue a few years back..

It wouldn't happen to be this one? http://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/Z/3.0i-sDrive35is/Sunderland/2936066-605238627-3497031.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_

If it is, bold statement indeed as spec listed is missing quite a few options. It doesn't seem to have comfort access and extended leather, heated steering wheel to name a few.

It's not a bad car, seems to be a few more slightly older or same age with less miles and smilar spec elsewhere in the country. Still a good looking car and great combo. Id try and squeeze them a little more on price.

However just the wheels is the main 'issue' I suppose if nice you also want to try the roof, just to make sure it's all working and no dodgy micro switches.

If it has the standard stereo and if you like music you will be dissapointed, it has 4 x 25 Watts and produces about 85 dB max. In context, if you were standing on the pavement and a lorry passed you doing 50 mph, the noise you would hear would be around 87 dB, ergo if you are driving down a busy motorway you won't be able to tell what song is playing, it could be Adele or a cat being strangled......yes some might say that's what she normally sounds like

This is almost identical to mine but mine does have the pro stereo (and is a 13 plate). It does make a huge difference (I had an 11 plate with the normal stereo before this one). That said, when I had the normal stereo I was just enjoying listening to the engine.

It looks lovely. Mine was £30K a year ago on a 13 plate at 15 months old with 2450 on the clock so this price seems OK, maybe you can get some off though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the stereo if you like listening to the car accelerate. If you want a stereo to listen to then the standard one is rubbish in comparison to the upgraded one.

It does have most of the 'usual' extras though - heated steering wheel, comfort access and extended leather as not spec'd on most IMO.

Hiya Sharon

Colour, wheel and interior are of course all your own taste.

Personally I would be very disappointed if I hadn't got the Professional Speakers option - its very good. I wish I'd got comfort access, but thats a minor gripe and I've seen very few second hand cars with this.

As for issues, I have had two with my 35is. Noisy fuel pump in the petrol tank when talk half full or less (replaced under warrantee), and a splutter on start up (injectors and other fuel pump replaces under warrantee). If I were buying again I'd check for both.

Good luck whatever you do!
