Looking at a Coupe at the min.

Hi all,

Been lurking on this forum for a couple of months now and decided to join in with some discussions. Ive been a avid fan of the Cliosport Forum and now have come across this great site. Keep up the great work guys.

I've been driving a clio 172 and am looking for something different and have decided on the z4 coupe Si Sport.

Ive seen a few on the BMW AUC website which are around 2 years and was wondering what extra benefits do i get from buying from AUC instead of buying from a private sale or an independent car dealer.

I know the prices are higher on AUC but how much are they willing to move on the price. 1k? I have 20K to spend and seen a couple of cars around teh 21.5K mark. Reckon they will shift down to 20K?

Another question is, on a OCT 2007 car. can the Comfort Pack be retro fitted by the dealer? Is PDC essential on this car as i heard rear visibilty is a bit poor in the coupe.

Anyone else come from a Clio172? i know the ride is a bit harsh in a z4 sport but was wondering how does it compare to the 172?

Many thanks to all.

Rear visibility on the Coupé is worse than on the Roadster with it's top down, but better than the Roadster with it's top up :P

£20k should see you with a Z4MC, never mind a 3.0Si - although the prices do seem to be firming up a bit and BWM have a lot less of the Z4MCs than they had when I bought mine in November last year.

The main benefit of buying from BMW over another dealer or private is a very good warranty (new car warrany until it's 3 years old, AUC warranty after that). The new car warranty covers a few more bits than the AUC warranty though. Plus you'll know it's been serviced properly (or at least had the book stamped) so that there's no problem claiming on the warranty, or extending it if you so wish. You'll also have the knoweldge that you've got BMW working on it when it does get repaired, rather than (in the case of a non-BMW dealer) an anonymous unknown entity.

cheers for that mmm-five,

I would love to stretch to the z4mc but the running costs are way too expensive for me. Just had a quick look at the Z4MC on BMW UAC and they start at 27k so thats a no no from me.

Just out of interest, anyone else from the Glossop/Hyde/mottram area of Manchester on here?

When I bought mine, the cheapest was £20k, unfortunately the summer is coming and the prices seem to be rising, although that Alpine White one has been on there for 6 months at that price. There is a 'coming soon' one, but that's still £24k :(

I'm not from there, but do go through Glossop quite frequently to get to some of my favourite driving around Derbyshire/Yorkshire.

Also does anyone know if the Bluetooth phone prep will work with the iphone 3G?

Welcome :D

Yes it does. Well mine does, took a few goes to pair it but its been fine ever since.

Got my Z4MC for well within your budget, but as you say the running costs are a lot higher.

Cheers MarkW.

I take it the Bluetooth only just works for the phone side of things. does it mean you can leave your iphone in your pocket (with bluetooth on) and then you answer calls. How do you dial out? do you have to get the phone out or can you use voice tagging or something?

Did you get the Z4MC from BMW AUC?

Yes just works for the phone. Does the car have Satnav? If so, all the contacts on your phone are visible on the screen. You can then use the buttons on the steering wheel to scroll through the list and dial whoever you want. Without satnav, I don't know how it works.

There is a voice activated option as well if fitted. I had it in my 350Z and it was rubbish. Don't know if the BMW one is better, but I prefer using the buttons.

Re PDC - It's personal choice but I've never had it and don't miss it. My friend and I refer to them as GPS - 'Girly Parking Sensors' LOL

You sit so far back in the Z4 there it just takes a bit of getting used to, as there is more in front of you than behind you

LOL at the GPS. i guess the sensors spoil the lines too. How would you go about charger the iphone or playing the songs on the iphone through the onboard speakers? More likely the car im after will have Sat Nav too.

Cars from a certain date have an 'aux in' (mine has) so you can connect your iphone or MP3 player directly, and just put the stereo in AUX mode. Works fine, but you cant use the stereo/wheels controls, there are various other options for this like Intravee that others will know more about.

You can also get a iphone holder, so you can charge the phone in the car cradle, but its about £80 from BMW and you cant use the headphone socket aux in at the same time so seemed a bit pointless to me

I don;t have satnav fitted but i can still see al the number from my iPhone 3g coming up on the radio display and can scroll through them and dial out via the multi-function steering wheel

While this is true... you can only see one number at a time :o I had to reorder my phonebook in order to put the most important ones at the top, and the ordering was as straight forward as it could have been :headbang:
