Hi,

I would appreciate your opinions on this car. It is a 2003 BMW Z4 2.5i Convertible 2-Door 2.5L with 18,600 miles on it. I spoke with the buyer and he says the car has been babied and is in perfect condition. Buyer is looking for $16K. Does that price sound reasonable? It's not my favorite color and it's an automatic versus the manual I prefer but it looks mint and the low miles has me interested.

What do you think??

Hi there

I am no expert on prices but I have done a lot of research lately on zed prices and that equates to £10, 700 pounds stirling which is really expensive I would expect to get a 3.0si 2007 model for that money! That is for a UK based car though.

Unless of course German cars are more expensive in the States due to import taxes.

I think the prices in the US for the Z4 are relatively more than in the UK. It won't be for import taxes, as they aren't made in Germany - they're made in the US.

It's really about what you want from the car - if it were me, the questions I'd ask are:
which state does it come from? Are there considerations depending on whether it's from a hot/cold/dry/wet state?
it's done a very low mileage in 10 years - it could have sat in a garage, but how has it been maintained over those years? Is anything due for replacement through age rather than wear?
can you live with the colour?
can you live with it being auto rather than the manual you want?
and finally (but probably most importantly) - how does it compare with other examples?

There is a great buyers checklist here done by AlanJ - http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21281 - I hope this helps!

Good luck with the search and please do let us know how you get on!

Sounds like you have doubts already about the car re: colour and transmission. There are lots of cars out there, so I'd wait for the right spec to come along. If you want a manual, you'd always regret settling for an auto.

Also, a very low mileage car can be more problematic than a well serviced high miler...
