looked at a z4 the other day

went to look at a z4 that is the spec i want and at the right price. However, had a couple of issues that thought would bring up on here to see peoples thoughts were.

Firstly i was worried about making sure it wasn't a cloned car and was probably over fussy but noticed a very small amount of scuffing on the dash right by the window vin number and the vin number itself was very wonky in the holder. Is this normal or would you expect the vin number to be fairly straight. I've seen a few and most are near straight although not totally straight. This one was well off. I cehcked the other vin numbers and they all added up. There was a vin numebr stamped in the o/s suspension with a clear film stuck over it and also a plate o/s upper wing with the vin number on.

secondly i checked out the previous mot's online and at the end it said various detail changes through out the history, last change shown in march this year. The last keeper change was december 09. Does anybody know what the MOT documents will be referring to saying last detail change march 10?

thirdly a panel at the back of he car, between the boot itself and the hood, had had a respray as i could see a yellow prima overspray when looking through the boot when open and was visible looking through the shut lines. is there reason why this particualr panel might need a respray? does it move when the hood goes up and down?

Also the reflector on the boot had damage to it. the guy said it was just brittle and breaking away and would have been replaced if it had of had a shunt. I wondered what other peoples experience is, do these reflectorsw just break for no reason?

thanks in advance to any replies.

If in any doubt walk away, there are plenty of nice cars out there, regarding the reflector on the boot, it's the third brakelight and earlier models had a tendency to crack where they are bolted to the boot.

If you have any kind of feeling that something's not right then don't buy it. I had it once, my Dad had gone with me to see the car and got a feeling it wasn't quite right. Of course, I didn't listen, bought the car anyway and ended up scrapping the bastard thing a few months later!

I can't think of a reason for that one panel to be resprayed, it doesn't move at all. The third brake light, as srhutch says, is known to crack on early cars.

Sounds to me like your heart is having an argument with your head.

Personally I would walk, as said there are alot of nice Z's out there,

That panel between boot and hood might have been marked by the hardtop. The paint on mine is badly marked not sure how it happens hopefully the detailers can polish it out next weekend.
