Look what I was parked next to today!

Jeez, talk about highly strung :o
Seems like although plenty of people could afford to buy one, half of them won't be able to afford to keep it on the road
I think I'd rather have a Z4M....

Mate had one on order, cancelled it though after hearing about the running costs, we are talking £3300+ vat for the 12k service (inc brake pads). the rear pads alone are £660!

Some SILLY parts prices, put alot of people off.

Quick question, why is the GT-R quicker than the M6 to 60mph? GT-R weighs slightly less but has slightly less power. I've read that the Nissan can do 0-60 in 3.9 secs without launch control whereas the M6 does it in 4.2, on the power to weight figures I thought the M6 would be quicker :?

Either way, that's a scrap I'd like to witness :driving:

From what the magazines are saying the GT-R is more powerfull than the quoted figures, some have say well over 500bhp and probably more like 530-550bhp.

Performance doesn't come without some cost. It's big, heavy, powerful, and complex, despite being relatively cheap to buy.

Think Gallardo LP560-4 performance/running costs, just at half the purchase price :D

Not really my cuppa tea, supremely impressive, but I'd take an Evo IX 360 as a road-rocket/practical car piece of kit.

I would swap my Z4MC in a minute if I thought I could afford to buy/run a GTR (which I can't :) )

I don't get the 'jap crap' snobbery thing. I've had several jap cars which have all had good performance/handling and been 100% reliable. How many of you buy Japanese electronics/cameras/gadgets etc due to the technology, so why not cars?

You have got to remember that this is a £50/£60k car that outperforms most cars costing twice as much. This puts it into more peoples price bracket, but you can't expect servicing costs to be cheap.

With regard to the guys parking, I don't blame him at all. When I bought my 350z it had one door ding. When I sold it it had eight. My z4mc had none in January and has one already. I never park next to a car that looks like it has kids in it, or anything old or scratched. If the car park isn't busy I will park out of the way and take two spaces as well.

Each GTR engine is individually built and allegedly has more up than quoted. Along with AWD and launch control this is why it is quicker than an M6 and many other cars too.

Theres talk also though of voiding the warranty if damage is caused when using launch control so maybe not so quick as an M6 in a straight line.

Turn VDC off (DSC to us) and it voids the warranty?!! Sod that!

I didn't read far enough to see that part! If this is their position, why make it possible to turn it off?

Kind of an admission that it's prone to fail with it off really.

Catch 22, get the best from it with it off, and you fix it if you break it, and chances are they do break, hence the warranty void...

That would be damn frustrating :D

Dave

Yes, the disclaimer is pretty scary. Nissan may as well say, NO WARRANTY after you drive it off the lot ...

There is enough fine print in there that Nissan can interpret any malfunction as being owner's fault. And what is the owner going to do? Get a lawyer? No thanks.

But my stance remains that I would rent one for a weekend to see what 500 hp AWD with the latest electronics feels like :D

Given those running costs, even w/ the relatively low priced tag, I would rather have a Porsche. If I were to stay in the Jap world, I would rather have an NSX. NSX has way more class and have developed a "classic" kind of look/feel like a Porsche.

The conditions laid out in the warranty are too off putting for me if i were to buy one, not to mention the running costs. It may be half the price or less of many a supercar out there, but costs just as much as one to run.

Also has runflat tyres!

I wouldn't go too much on that warranty statement as it mentions "USA" in the title! Probably may read a bit different in the UK.

Wow... a lot of non-PC terms being thrown about in this thread.

Anyway, all this talk about VDC-off = warranty void from LC is old news. Nissan has since provided a firmware update to address the issue. LC will still work, although it's a softer launch than before. Not a win-win compromise, but a compromise nonetheless. :(

Regardless, I myself would stay away from this car based on maintenance costs alone. Although it might not be too far off the maintenance costs of real supercars, it's still quite staggering. I've done my maths and I know it ain't gonna happen for me. And I'm cool with that. 8)

Now to go buy a lottery ticket...

On the taking up of two spaces in an empty car park- while no one will argue that it harms anyone, the fact that the car park is empty and the driver STILL takes up two spaces (when there's no threat of being dinged) is probably enough to provoke the type of moron that goes around vandalising nice cars.

If the car park is empty, it doesnt matter if you take up two spaces then ! . i have parked in an empty car park before and still had some idiot parking next to me. Once people start respecting other peoples property i will stop doing it, and maybe stop parking in parent & child spaces which are my favourite by the way.. :D

Dang, the way that disclaimer reads, you void the warranty if you so much as burp while in it!

They can keep it.

The simple fact is, you can't double guess the logic of those who act illogically! (ie, the types who part next to a car over two spaces and still hit it, or decide to damage it because it's over two spaces, or just drive into it/dink it by parking next to it in a normal space despite the carpark being empty!)

Ye canny double guess dumbasses and their behaviour :D

Dave

I guess the lower cost version, the 370Z, may be a good buy though.
It's more of a sports car than the new Z4! :driving:
