Longlife quad exhaust woes

So I'm booked in for a Longlife quad exhaust for £499 - yay!

Get there this morning - oh no mate, price is £899. I go to leave, and "oh, if we said £499 in the email, we'll do it for that price, but plus VAT".

He preordered me the most hideous tips in the world and doesn't have any more in stock, despite the email saying that I could choose the tips when I arrived. I ask for plain slash cut or rolled in, which he says he can do.

Bah - ok then.

Jump in cab home - almost there and mobile rings - "can't do a quad on this car as there are pipes in the way" - WHY DID YOU SAY YOU COULD IN AN EMAIL THEN. Says he could run the other side across so just using one backbox, but says the fuel filter would need to be moved before he could fit it, and that it would end up being very loud and potentially drone.

After discussion I agree to just have a single sided cat back stainless, no drone, slightly louder than stock for £349 fitted - fine!

Get there after lunch to collect, and he's externally rolled the tips rather then internally, but it sounds pretty good on idle.

Cough up the readies, and drive home.

Sounds REALLY good on hard acceleration, loads of pops and rumbles too - nice!

But in traffic it is far too loud for an old git like me, and drowns out the stereo - its much louder than we agreed. Bumholes.

Hate it - and it has got to go.

Give H&S a call - they want £700 + vat for a non quad. Supersprint is £900, Eisenmann even more.

Really pissed off as the car is far too loud for me, and want to replace it ASAP but I don't have that sort of money spare with the other repairs the car needs - don't want to take it back to Longlife as I don't trust them to sort it - would rather get it removed and bung it on eBay.

Any suggestions chaps? Ideally for one that can be built while I wait or a mail order premade decent quality one that isn't too loud?

you should have read the offical quad exhaust thread - quite a few members had used a longlife garage (including me) only to be unhappy with the quality or loudness

I and 4 others had a custom muffler built - all detailed on the hugggeee quad conversation thread

I skimmed it

Searched for hugggeee quad but no results?

So does this mean a longlife exhaust could be up for sale some time soon?

Hell yes! As soon as I find a replacement :D

I call first dibs! I've been wanting to custom fabricate my own but i haven't got the time, if i take yours on i can cut and shut to my liking :D

That'll do nicely :)

Just need to find it's replacement, and as soon as I do I'll hit you up for the cash and send it on it's merry way to Wiltshire :driving:

Crack on then :poke:
Looking forward to it, it'll be a surprise as I haven't a clue what it looks like! Living on the edge!

Sorry to read about your issue. According to the guys @ Stainless Exhaust Systems in Huthwaite, where Ranski, I and at least 2 others had theirs custom made, many of the chains use relatively cheap pre made systems from China. I have had a similar experience at pre sales stage with a newish franchise who ordered me a single box, cat back system and when I arrived to have it fitted, the exit pipes were welded onto the wrong face! Thankfully, I drove away pronto without having shelled out a deposit for the system.

You live and learn! :x

Good luck sorting it out mate.

If you think your exhaust is loud now wait a few months and see how loud it really will get!!

I got a quad from Huthwaite... Could be a little louder- but aside from that perfect!

Did you deal with a guy called Dan at Longlife? I removed the charcoal filter on mine and then he could run the additional pipe work for the quad conversion.

Don't get me wrong, the exhaust is LOUD!

Sorry to hear about your troubles, I had a quad done at Longlife in Leeds and its absolutely fine. Not noisey at all and looks the business. Maybe its pot luck with Longlife some franchaise good some bad
