Longlife grippy tyres - any suggestions?

Again goes to show that different tyres suit different cars.
The ZZ3s were great on the mini and the hyundai coupe
 
I understood it perfectly.... had these on my integra for 12k miles, 4 track days and they were still good for another 5-6k miles when i sold the car!. You've obviously never owned a set. Incredible tyres.

You're right, my mistake. I was using the old A048 not the newer AD08R.

They were on a car only 100kg heavier than the Z4, and they lasted 2 track days and 4,000 road miles! Although saying that, the Pirelli P-Zero Corsas and Toyo R888s and didn't even last that long :oops:

Eventually went to carrying spare wheels with a hard compound tarmac rally tyre on.
 
No worries mate...... i was genuinely shocked at the amount of grip the AD08R's gave me on my integra, the z4 is slightly heavier but i would'nt hesitate to use them again on my zed!... :D

Geezah, how do you find your Vred Ultrac Vortis? I'm ordering up some new tyres tomorrrow and was going to get the Vred Sessantas, but my usual supplier is listing them only in 225 for the front and not the 255s for the rear. Not sure if they've been discontinued or not but I'll ring him tomorrow to find out. If he can't get the Sessanta I was going to ask for the Vortis but can't find any mention of anyone else here that's used them. The reviews on them are good though.

I'm tempted to try Uni Rainsports, a lot of guys on the MX5 forums and the review sites love 'em. Fulda Sport Control also look worth a punt, they get really good reviews too.
 
I fitted uniroyal rainsport 2's to my elise & they were so much safer in the wet that the previous bridgestone potenzas it was unreal, didn't drive enough miles to wear them out & the elise was only 850kg so it's difficult to say how long they would last on a z4-i was pleased with them though.

The reviews for the R/Sport 3 suggest they're as good as the 2s were - good price as well. Price fitted around here is £482 from a good reputable place that sells pretty fresh stock - i.e his tyres haven't been sat on a shelf somewhere for years. Might have a punt at those depending on what the tyre guy can get hold of, the wear isn't really a problem, they're cheap enough to replace if they're any good. Plus I'll take grip over wear rate any day

Another vote for Avon ZZ5s here - my rears lasted about 13k before punctures robbed me of them

Replaced with P-Zeros and very disappointed in these - only done 7k on them - don't see them lasting more that about 2k more and don't have the grip of the ZZ5s

I still have the original ZZ3s on the front and they just don't want to wear after 20k!! at 4mm at worst measure

I think driving style must have a massive influence on tyre experience - the only real way to tell is compare what you have had on yourself - or buy the most expensive.
