Ok.

For those of you who might remember my wife and i had to cut our fantastic euro trip to Italy short because I got very ill and needed hospital.

Well I'm still laying here in a hospital bed and this is night 24.

Got me thinking - I've never before not driven a car for more than 14 days.

All I can think about in here is getting discharged and going for a blast in the Zed but I'm a little worried I might be a bit rusty! Thankfully my wife is a driving instructor so I won't be diving straight back in without an hour with her first.

Anyway - what's the longest you've not driven for and how did it feel when you finally got behind the wheel again?

And how long is your longest stint not driving your Zed?!

Driving is such an integral part of my normal life (commute daily, live in a village so drive everywhere) it's been very odd not to do it for so long.

Hope the recovery is going well :)

Longest I've not driven a car for would be 17 years... but that's just being pedantic and for the first 10 years my feet couldn't reach the pedals :P (I'll get my coat)

Since being legally allowed to drive, the longest has been just shy of four months... but that was work enforced as there's no room to drive in a metal tube 100m long at depth. Never really thought about being rusty when I got back in a car, but then didn't really have much time to ponder such things on patrol and was more focused on getting home, and saying "Hello" to the girlfriend again if you catch my drift...

The longest I've not driven my Zed, is about 6 months (it was SORN'd) :o but then it's not my daily driver.

How long before you can get back behind the wheel?

7months when I lived in Tenerife... Straight back in the car when I got back and it felt like I'd not been away.

This is good news then, I'm obviously worrying too much.

There isn't any dvla or medical reasons why I can't drive as soon as I get out which is good. They're discussing if I can go home later today.

I think the thing I'm looking forward to the most is just some fresh air and a feeling of freedom again. The Zed with the roof down over the weekend will be the best of all worlds.

The longest I have not driven for is 8 weeks after I broke my back. No problems driving afterwards, its like riding a bike
The longest period not driving the Zed was 7 months whilst away working but I had something to compensate for my loss
