Longest ownership

I’m celebrating 10 years with my zed 😊 Bought in June 2012 with 14,000 miles of the clock my zed has put a smile of my face every day, rain or shine. I love it! Since I’ve owned mine for 10 years I wondered if anyone on here might have owned theirs for longer? I’d love to know.
The car has now covered 98,000 miles and never seriously let me down. I had the wheels refurbished a couple of years ago and they are like new and I machine polish out any scratches I can; a few dings on the bodywork have been professionally corrected and the paintwork is still pristine. I changed the inner corona “yellow” rings for “ bright white” ones following a link on here and I have OME rotating centre caps on the wheels.
I did have an issue with the gear selector; I drive in manual mode, changing gear with the paddles but at some point it reverted to auto mode and wouldn’t hold the manual gear. That was pricey to fix but worth it. The only other issue I’ve had was when the boot closing mechanism wouldn’t fully close down the boot so I couldn’t open the roof. After a month of investigation, BMW finally traced the issue to some electrical fault and it’s been perfect ever since.
Overall, I love this car!!!
How long have you owned yours?

I’ve had my E85 since May 2010. It had 56k when I got it, now almost 108k, the last few years only see about 3-5k annually. Roof motor recovered & relocated, new starter motor at about 100k, new front springs soon after and one new coil at probably about 80k, other than that it’s only needs consumables, which I maintain regularly. Although it gets washed and hoovered regularly, I’ve only ever polished one wing before getting bored with it!

Just remembered, replaced the 3rd brake light twice, one new mirror glass and the rocker cover gasket.

Had my 1999 Z3 since 2012 a few jobs carried out, new Maf and exhaust sensors, camshaft sensor only got 43k miles on it now, Sorned over winter months. With nothing left on the Z3 to do I went out in 2019 and bought a 2003 2.5 Z4 with 93k miles on it for something to tinker with. Sorted out a few problems and relocated the hood motor/pump to the boot. All oils changed and plugs changed. Changed the wheels for a set of 17 inch staggered wheels. Had a brake pressure sensor set a code, replaced that with one off ebay for £12 new.
All the wing liners pulled out and all the arches cleaned and waxoyled. Had an advisory on rear brake pipes, the fixed line between the two stock flexi lines. Repaced those with stainless braided lines, remainder of fixed lines cleaned up and painted. Flew through next MOT.
Fitted some aftermarket heated seat pads to the manual seats and quite happy with the result. Had already fixed a cam cover oil leak at the beginning of ownership and just recently replaced the oil filter to block gasket which was weeping. Have been keeping the Z4 on the road all year as it lives on the drive, the Z3 lives in the garage year round. `

Had my 2007 e85 3.0si for 9 years
New roof and motor (under warranty)
Abs motor repaired
Oil filter gasket replaced

The rest has been consumables (including suspension).
62k Miles in 2013 now close to 130k

Not owned for that long (since Jan ‘19), but if we are talking in a mileage basis then not too bad at over 30,000 miles since then (all over Europe, various trips to Scotland, Lake District etc).

Been really impressed with reliability. Only major things are ABS refurb and Eccentric shaft sensor, but both of those less than £400 to sort.

Rest has been consumables, again inexpensive since most parts shared with other models (E46, X3 etc).

Looking forward to the next 30,000!

nah i dont keep cars for that long, i like to try different things. the car i've owned the longest was a Nissan 350z which i had for 4 years, but it got a bit rusty, and 27mpg got a bit tedious.

My Z4 was actually a second car, which i keep for even less time than my daily driver. Had my z4 from october 2017 to May 2020, now i'm in a boxster.

my wife objects to me swapping cars so often, but when the alternative is swapping wives, i think she'd prefer i do the former!

Had mine 18 months, second longest I have ever kept a car, got to get to 25 months to be top of the pile - lets see what happens

I've had Z4s for 8 years now, but 3 different ones!

Had the first one 2 years and regretted taking a deposit on it so I got the next one 2 days later.

So it should have been 5 and a half years really and 2 and a half years with this one - and it's staying. :)

Board title is E89 Z4 discussion

So will stick to that.
Had my Z4 now 11 years, it will be 14 years old in May.

Previously had an E85 for about 18 months, then the E89 for almost 6 years now and it's 10 year old, (just clicked over 50,000 miles)
It's the oldest car I've ever had and the one I've kept the longest
All I've replaced are consumables, battery, tyres, brake pads and an annual service - touch wood

Love it :sweetheart:
Keep looking at G29's but very hard to justify the cost with my very low annual mileage - one day :)

Not an E89 but I bought my Z4 in 2007 it was around 3 months old…. So that’s roughly 16 years now….
