London to Brighton Run anyone? April 2015

In light of Blue's Mini run to Brighton.....why shouldn't we plan one for April!!??

If we can all meet in either central London on a Sunday morning, South of the river, and head out on the A23/M23.....have a light breakfast on the way, and then a good Sunday lunch when we get there.....

Those from Kent/Essex can head off from there, and the rest of the southern folk and some midlanders I'm sure, can do the trip back....

I'm sure we can find a good group shot and place to park up there, with some careful thought, and walk up through the lanes and have lunch somewhere nice, or a little further out to Hove and a lovely pub....

Any takers?

If you don't want breakfast on the way I'd recommend the Roedean Cafe in Brighton, get the the seafront and turn left and it's about 3 miles down near the Marina, big car park and used to groups going on......it's a greasy spoon essentially but the food is good :)

Believe me, you do not want to drive through central Brighton if you can avoid it, it was unpleasant for cars before but, since the Greens have taken control of the council, it's become positively car-hostile with city-wide 20mph limits, frequent gridlocks and stupidly high parking charges. My mother still lives in Brighton and the only time I'll venture anywhere near is if we're visiting her.

To avoid driving straight through central Brighton, just before you get to Brighton, you can cut off the A23 and take the Saddlescombe road towards the Devil's Dyke which is a nice road or, alternatively, you can cut east towards Pycombe, then over Clayton Hill towards Hassocks and take the back road into Ditchling and try the climb up to Ditchling Beacon - a lovely hill road, not that long but tight, twisty with some sharp changes in pitch left over from the old horse & cart resting spots where you can feel the car squirm under you as it lifts, goes light, and then settles and grips again

This is the view across to Mid-Sussex from Ditchling Beacon

So, unless you like sitting in traffic, I'd recommend that you skirt around Brighton and head up to Devil's Dyke or Ditchling Beacon (or both) for some nice scenic shots - they both have fairly large large car parks but can get full if it's good weather, and both have good roads back to the Brighton bypass so you can skirt around central Brighton. if you go east on the bypass, come off at Falmer and head south over to Woodingdean and down to to the coast at Rottingdean, you can then take the coast road west back towards Brighton and take Duke's Mound to get onto the seafront at the eastern end of Madeira Drive - this is where they finish the London-Brighton car runs - the eastern end tends to be fairly quiet and you should be able to line up and get some decent photos.

This is #320 at the eastern end of Madeira Drive

It's a short drive (200 yds) from the western end of Madeira Drive to the Royal Pavilion if you want shots with it in the background, they'll have to be moving shots as I don't think there's anywhere you can park and get photos with it in shot, or, as you go towards the western end of Madeira Drive, you should be able to find parking spaces and walk to the Pavilion, The Lanes or go on Brighton Pier, eat candyfloss and and get crapped on by seagulls

Bear in mind the England/Wales run will be Sunday the 12th April and every man and his dog look like they're doing this one!!

Interested!

Do like a Brighton run, although I do agree with Perry, it's a bit slow in town. Don't mind giving it a swerve at the end.

Perry great idea and great pics, will def rely on some country bumpkins, sorry locals for their advice on getting to some good places and a good drive out, thanks for that.
