London attack

i'm not against the death penalty in dead-certain (excuse the pun..) cases, but in this instance that would only be what they want, so screw it - stick them in a dark damp cell with minimal food and water.

the sad fact is they'll get playstations, TV, a salary and a warm cosy bed.

..at least there's some other criminals who can show them some 'love'.

Being in prison must be no life at all.
I imagine it is like poverty only worse.
Never being able to do anything for years on end...

Not for me thanks.

i do have a theory that we could outsource our prisons to india and the like, im sure we would save a lot of money and the experience might might actually help people not to re offend - i know we tried it and ended up with australia, but i think if we like to outsource things to india - why not prisons

I'm sure India would go for that. Whats not to like right?! India could be like the film Escape from New York.

sounds good but I think being incarcerated locally is meant to reduce re-offending

But for this stuff we really need gov.

GOV!

Outsource to India

We could send them over by sea container too :D

Maybe just rent them some nice rooms in Guantanamo Bay. Give the Americans a lawful use for that place...

India would go for it in a heartbeat - wed pay £100 a week, let them keep prisoners in the style that works for the location - ie a handful of rice and dysentry - they would make a profit and we would save a fortune

Interested to hear how fellow Forum members class this attack... Plain act of Murder, or an "Act of Terrorism".

Define terrorism.

"the unofficial or unauthorised use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims:
- the fight against terrorism
- international terrorism"

So if you believe they had political aims (however misguided) then it's terrorism.

Either way it's still murder.

The act of terrorism part are those actions by the "teachers" that brainwash them (i.e. those followers are too thick to think for themselves).
The murder is what those followers then perform.

its terrorism for sure - murder with an agenda to cause change - problem is it works - as long as one newspaper questions our foreign policy over this then the return on investment is guarenteed

Just seen this on FB and thought I would share it with you. Choked me up a bit when I read it to the wife

Agree.

I wonder if the government made a mistake by immediately branding it terrorism though - it has given them twisted 'legitimacy', and had one or both of them died in the shooting they would have become martyrs by the very fact it was labelled terrorism. If the government hadn't, then someone would have had to claim the organisation of the killings to define it as terrorism - and if that hadn't happened then the killers' actions would be of much less worth to their 'cause'. Scary though - it's like insurgency in our own country... Wonder if we'll see IEDs on Britain's roadsides in future...

Here's a question - if it had not been a soldier but an ordinary member of the public, would the government so immediately have called it terrorism ?

Soldier or Public, their actions would still have been focused against the government, so I think Yes

Punish their friends & family as well, as I or 2 Arabic countries do, may make them think twice butter root issue is what they believe is their cause.

Words fail me.

I laughed.

Hey Jem, you know collective punishment is a crime against humanity?
It isn't a go-er.

Words may fail you Stu & I do understand morally why you believe it's unacceptable, though haven't seen any other suggestion that has a chance of making these people consider changing their viewpoint, other than giving in, bending over & dropping the trousers.

Given a choice, I'd never want to do this, but there are elements in our society covertly working the situation to their advantage - voting on leaving the EEC, cracking down on anyone who doesn't have a British passport that works here etc... not being treated fair in the playground may not be nice, but if you're outside the fence looking in it'll be even worse.

You can't fight fire with fire and these people presently see they only have themselves to loose through their actions. If you have a different suggestion that will get these people to change their views & attitude, would love to hear it.

One issue that riles us Americans concerning the death penalty vs life in prison. Is the fact that while serving life in prison. The inmate can have cable television, have a radio, 3 hot meals every day, a gym to workout, a little butt buddy. Now if our system had hard labor. And precisely zero privalages other than food, a shower, a bed, and the afore mentioned hard labor. I think a lot of folks that support the death penalty just might change their minds. As it stands. Life in prison seems a holiday compared to the life the victims families have to suffer through.

I agree with Ste. Even with a white hot issue like this. Everyone has been respectful of differing opinions. Kudos to us.
