Funnily enough these things do actually work! There is a throttle delay between the pedal sender and the servo that opens the throttles. The thing is though, you can just remap the settings in the ECU and gain the same result without fitting a seperate unit. The OEM system is designed so that when you floor the pedal the servo gradually opens the throttles to give you a smooth pick up, this delay is slightly reduced when you hit the sport button. If you prefer though you can simply remap the ECU to snap the throttles open instantly rather than give a smooth progression. Most remaps concentrate on areas like that, it's not so much a case of squeezing more power from the car but improving all of it's responses.
It's a similar thing to adding a resistor to you Mass Air Flow Sensor to trick the ECU into giving a richer mixture, it works but you can also mess around with the mixture settings when you map the car and that way you don't have to splice bits into your electrical system.
